Matt, I couldn't agree more. Now I have to go back into lurk mode on this thread. I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked into the debate. My wife doesn't like me when I get stressed out over politics.

I'm also not buying the deer in the headlights, outsider, down-home-gal that Palin presents; "Gosh! Golly! Me just don't understand! I'm just one of you! I just guess that's a politician speaking, 'cause good gosh golly I just don't get it."
Please.

I can see where you could do that Matt -- but having seen my own words
horribly misrepresented by the press I'm generally willing to give the benefit
of the doubt. If it was a direct quote I think there would have been more in
quotes than simply "pro-american." As I said I think she was playing the
culture wars card.

Of course she was, Geoff. But I'm not willing to give Palin or the GOP the benefit of the doubt based on their divisive track record of claiming anyone who doesn't agree with them and their stance on things like Iraq and lapel pins is un-American. Sorry, they lost their right to the benefit of the doubt years ago.

Well, I can understand that but I can't say I'm quite there yet, tho. If it is a
direct quote though I want to see the whole quote as I suspect I live in an
"Unamerican State" -- and nonetheless I am damn proud of it!

I know I do. California ain't on the McCain/Palin list of "American" states. Hell, Palin says ""In fact, we were on the bus today, we were making a list of who are some celebrity singers who could come out and help us and gosh, for the life of us, the pickins were slim there," she said. "Who's quasi-conservative out there in the celebrity land?"
"Gosh! Pickins! Celebrity land!" Ain't she just so downhome and cute? She's just one of us!
blerggggggggghhhhhhhhhaaaaa
Excuse me. I threw up a lot in my mouth.

Definition of irony...starting a message post about hate with "This is the crap that makes me HATE Palin and those that believe the way she does.".
Definition of missing the point

So, other than hating someone, what was your point?

Bruce from your posts I would assume you have republican leanings and to be honest I put you in the same line with Geoff.
When McCain and Obama were chosen by their political parties, I felt so hopeful for this country. The "democrat=unAmerican" fringe of the republlican party would finally lose their voice. For the last eight years we have been a nation divided and I was hopeful that no matter what, if McCain got in, we would be OK and if Obama got in, we would be OK. But then McCain picked Palin and the same divisive demonizing of those who don't believe the way the far right believes started.
I understand why Geoff identifies with the republicans on some issues and to be honest I look at some of their issues as important issues for the country. I think our country works because of those differing issues. But to make Washington the enemy and to make those from the other party less American is just plain wrong!

I know. That cracked me up. I'd say more hypocrisy than irony though.

Irony does not make things less true.
Indeed, it is often the best tool for making a larger point.
