One cannot put in words the deep, deep, heartfelt sense of relief that will sweep this nation should Obama win. (*Not to mention the global sense of relief.) A good day for billions of human beings.
As well, a bell weather moment in American History.
A rare moment where the majority of the world can share in a smile of joy.

Not true of 2004. The polls at this same point four years ago showed basically a statistical tie, some showing Kerry ahead by a couple points, some showing Bush slightly ahead, but all of them (except Gallup which had Bush up by 5) within the margin of error.

You didn't find Powell's endorsement to be sincere, David?
It sounds like his concerns are the direction of the GOP, McCain's judgement, and his pick of Palin. Doesn't sound pissed to me.

Powell is a class act and one hell of man. I had the honor of meeting him once. If he were running as the Republican nominee he may have got my vote.

Powell's disgraceful appearance at the UN soured me on him. A sad day.

Kevin I thought the same thing until he resigned, I wrote to Powell after he spoke at the UN and asked why he supported this action knowing full well it would cost thousands of US military lives and it was based on information that was shakey at best. He replied with a really weird letter, it came across as a man torn, (maybe it was wishful thinking on my part).
If he had stayed with Bush thru his 2 terms I would have lost all respect for him, but he resigned and I took that as a stand against what Bush and Co. were doing.
I think it would be very hard for someone in the military to be a vocal critic of a person they have been trained to respect and follow.
I consider Powell an honorable republican

Suddenly, I'm not so worried about the Joe the Plummer lies anymore if this level of desperation is in play...

Without even hearing what the right wing pundits had to say, it was obvious they would say Powell was backing Obama due to race. What a sad, disgusting bunch the right are. They're so desperate, so angry, so hateful, that even "good Republicans" who just back their party due to a history of doing so, or some value connection, are caught up in their hate storm.
I always felt bad for Powell, used to sell the war when clearly he didn't feel it was in the country's best interest, and now disparaged for being "unpatriotic" and siding with Obama. Silliness.
The guy noted what seems fairly obvious - the party's taken a very bad turn, the ugliness has to stop, the McCain campaign (run by the last remaining snakes from the Bush universe) is nasty and wrong, and the idea of several more Supreme Court justices being selected by this bunch makes a person want to vomit.
Today on Yahoo the top two headlines were about Powell siding with Obama, then McCain attacking Obama again. Thank goodness this is in the home stretch and the country can get on with its business again, or at least the news sources can. This has been a memorable election for its open mudslinging and hatred. I find it very disturbing that racism, which had gone underground for the most part in recent decades, is healthy and open again. The last month of Palin rallies feels like the civil rights era all over again.
Now Powell will be dragged through the mud like Scott McClellan was when he wrote his book. Funny how these great "patriots" are the best of men when they're shoveling the poop, and when they stop and say what's on their minds, and consciences, then they're "un-American."
Obama on Nov. 4th!

I haven't heard it in his own words yet. Hearing it just took me by surprise and that's what came to mind. My opinion of him is coloured by the administration he was a part of. I don't doubt that he could be sincere if people on the forum believe that to be the case.
