My guess is that Powell decided to side with Obama because he got upset with the dirty pool McCain is playing. The same thing happened when Ted Kennedy had enough of Bill Clinton's game to discourage Southern Black voters. I think Powell's endorsement will be just the tip of the iceberg. Other moderate conservatives who have been left out in the cold by Far Right for the past eight years are going to go to Obama.

Why? That map gives him 286 electoral votes. He only needs 270.

Yeah, but only 249 "solid".

Yeah, geez Marcio, McCain only has 140 "solid" votes on that same map.  The fact that Obama has enough to win on that map without even including any states that are tied in the polls is encouraging.  At this point he seems almost certain to hold the 2004 Kerry states and to add Iowa on top of them.  If he does that he only needs to add Virginia, Florida, or Ohio to win.  Or if he gets both Colorado and New Mexico he doesn't even need Virginia, Florida, or Ohio.  Meanwhile for McCain to win, he'd need to win all the "toss up" states plus pick up two more that are currently leaning towards Obama.

Of course a lot can change in 2.5 weeks and I imagine there's going to be a McCain resurgence of a sort coming due to his negative advertising.  I expect the popular vote results to be a 5% or less victory, whoever wins.  But Obama still would appear to have a pretty decent electoral map advantage even if the popular votes pulls much closer.

Funny how these great "patriots" are the best of men when they're shoveling the poop, and when they stop and say what's on their minds, and consciences, then they're "un-American."

***************

True, but plenty of liberals thought Powell was "disgraceful" when he was serving in the Bush Administration (and probably even before that), but are applauding him how for endorsing Obama. So that sort of mentality exists on both sides.

My opinion of Colin Powell hasn't changed. He was an honorable man before and he's an honorable man now. I disagree with his presidential endorsement, but respect his opinion.

And, no, I don't think race has anything to do with it, although I suspect his shabby treatment at the hands of Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. may have played a role - and understandably so. I thought the Bush Administration made a huge mistake by alienating a great American hero like Gen. Powell.

++++
Remember Al Gore, remember Al Gore.
God forbid, but I am not sure Obama already won. He is making a good point when he asks everybody to keep up and not believe that the election is already won. It is good to see that victory is near.

Oh, by the way - bringing this all back home to comics - if you want to read a great political story that involves the type of voter fraud that has been committed the last two elections - check out the brilliant Birth of a Nation - written by Aaron McGruder (the Boondocks) and Reginald Hudlin and illustrated by Kyle Baker.

It's an amazing and awesome read.
