Especially when you consider that 'socialism' is far more in keeping with the
values that Jesus preached...

Uh oh.  Now you've done it, Al!

But challenging a candidate's personal religious beliefs traditionally has been considered off-limits - and for good reason. It's dirty pool. And in this case, it's an outright lie. I think this ad is going to backfire on Dole big-time.

Bruce, well said!

I would like to believe that, but sadly many of my fellow North Carolinians will be driven to vote for Dole because of that commercial.

Wallace, where in the Tar Heel State do you call home? Forgive me if you've said before - I just don't remember.

And while I know negative advertising often is effective, I really do think this will backfire on Dole. It's just too ugly and personal. And the fact it can be proven false so easily (Hagan's long-time minister appeared at a press conference yesterday to say the Dole ad is untrue) may make it a hot potato for the Dole campaign.

Yeah, except they (Republicans) don't base their entire platform on spreading the wealth...

-------------

I love the sound bites lately of "spreading the wealth", just like the nefarious outcries of "socialism" and now the rants of "unAmerican" are on the rise again - they're fun to spout when you don't have much else to say.

I'd rather the Democrats "spread the wealth," than the Repulicans "Hoard the Wealth."

I'm in the Bull City, Bruce.  I spend most of my day over in Wake County though.

The commercial won't affect my vote at all, but I thought it was Hagan's voice, too.  I think many North Carolinians will hear "Godless" and "Hagan" mentioned in the same ad, and that with be enough to ensure they vote for Dole.

Yeah, God forbid that people get to keep what they work hard for.  Better to give it to others so they don't have to work hard.

Durham is a great city, Wallace! (Well, except for the presence of Duke University....)

My wife loves to go to the Streets at South Point to shop. I think my favorite spot in Durham is the Durham Bulls baseball stadium - the best ballpark in N.C., in my opinion. I'm in Greensboro, so it's not far at all.

When I was an undergrad at NCCU, one of my frat brothers and I would go hang out with a group of girls at Duke.  We ran into a disappointing amount of "Wow!  How can you guys be so smart?  You go to Central..." comments.  We also visited Greensboro on a fairly regular basis.

I like South Point, too, and Ultimate Comics is right around the corner.  Have you two ever been to the Symposium restaurant next to the ballpark.

Scott it's about giving tax breaks to the wealthiest, instead of tax breaks to the middle class. I bet rich companies like Exxon love the fact that the McCain/Palin team has the little guy bemoaning Obama's tax plan.

That's the Dukies for you. The phrase "Born on third base and think they hit a triple" certainly applies to a significant number of folks there. (And I hate to say it, but that same sort of elitist mentality is prevalent at my alma mater of Wake Forest, too.)

I have not been to the Symposium, but I'll have to check it out. Even though it's a chain, I do like Jonny Carino's Italian restaurant there, which we don't have in G'boro. It's better than Olive Garden and more affordable that Carrabba's or Macaroni Grill.

And I've never been to Ultimate Comics. Next time my wife gets a hankering to go to South Point, I'll make sure I fit in a trip!
