Under a Bush administration... "The effective federal tax rate of the top 1 percent of taxpayers has fallen from 33.4 percent to 26.7 percent, a 20 percent drop. In contrast, the middle 20 percent of taxpayers -- whose incomes averaged $51,500 in 2001 -- saw their tax rates drop 9.3 percent. The poorest taxpayers saw their taxes fall 16 percent."

And this is a bad thing? Looks to me like all three income brackets listed here got a substantial tax reduction.

And can somebody tell me why we are giving Scott's hard earned money to Sunni Insurgents? It is wrong I tell you. Just plain wrong to take money out of Scott's pockets and hand it over to someone he's not related to. Heck, they don't even live on the same continent.

Frackin' socialist action...

It's wrong I tell you. Just wrong.

The middle class pays essentially 46% of their income nationally, where the more wealthier range from 28-38%

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Where did you get those numbers?

(A posting I thought took but vanished when I updated a different page)

But that same study "found that the wealthiest 20 percent, whose incomes averaged $182,700 in 2001, saw their share of federal taxes drop from 64.4 percent of total tax payments in 2001 to 63.5 percent this year. The top 1 percent, earning $1.1 million, saw their share fall to 20.1 percent of the total, from 22.2 percent.

Over that same period, taxpayers with incomes from around $51,500 to around $75,600 saw their share of federal tax payments increase. Households earning around $75,600 saw their tax burden jump the most, from 18.7 percent of all taxes to 19.5 percent."

I know we're only dealing with a minor change in percent, but a shift that benefits the wealthier (who have every right to want to keep what they earn) puts the burden on me to support the change (who thought he had the right to keep what he earned, but was sadly mistaken).

That was a quoted number I'd read about two years ago, Christopher. I'll try to find that reference.

I like the punchline of the bank bailouts---They are using the money to buy up other banks...and they wont disclose the details of the bailout.

Its like paying for a mansion you're not allowed to live in or a huge buffet you're not allowed to eat from.

Christopher stay strong brother and fight that coperate fight ! I am so moved I am going to go donate money to the cause. :0) Seriously people don't give Christopher a hard time, he makes enough that he is willing to pay higher taxes so Exxon can make a little more.

"Taxes, we don't need no stinkin' taxes,"

One has to admire Jeff's family values. A far cry from McCain's 'family values' as he left his ailing, dried up wife home alone...

"Gee. He's out late tonight. I hope nothing is wrong..."
"He was gone all weekend. I hope he calls."
"Well, it was nice having him call and letting me know everything is alright."

...while he's out boning some rich chick.

Party. Party. Party.
