not sure where the 41% tax on Exxon comes from when in the second quarter they grossed 138 billion and paid 32 billion in tax, with an 11 billion net profit.

That would make their tax burden of the gross income 23%, for this quarter at least.

I thought movie accounting was funky but the oil companies have their act down.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The 41% is from 2007. You're the one whose numbers are off. The 138 billion is revenue not profit.

William if you are an Obama supporter I forgive you, but if you are voting McCain, how dare you repeat something, you are banned for posting again.  LOL and yes I am kidding.

I am glad you did, because this thread moves so damn fast I hate trying to find something cool, to show someone here at home.  Welcome to the discussion!

I read it. It didn't make any sense. How did you get 23% if you didn't count the 138 billlion as profit?

She spends thousands of dollars on makeup, hairstyles and clothing yet claims she is of the common folk.

but that Palin's expenditures on her appearance and personal trips are incongruous with her original presentation as a frugal reformer outsider,

So I'm not allowed to be pissed because "one of us" Palin spent more on clothes and makeup in the last month than I make in 5 years.

I love it. The truly superior, informed, righteous open minded "liberal" left. Obama spent 6 million on an infomercial and the McCain campaign, not Palin, spent 150,000 on wardrobe for her. It doesn't belong to her, and plans are already made to donate it all to charity. The venom is unreal. She buys most of her clothing at a consignment shop in her town, verified by the media weeks ago from local interviews.

okay, Scott, here's the post turtle, it's a term used among the country folk that are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Maybe it's a Pa. term according to the incumbent Senator.

Line of thought goes something like this. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, and he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there in the first place".

Acorn didn't screw up anything. It wasn't voter fraud since as of today Mickey Mouse hasn't actually voted. Employees who were out gathering registrations were making up names to get paid more. Many were caught by Acorn and some slipped through.

And what does Obama have to do with Acorn? He worked with them once upon a time. He does have some ties to them but minor ones. Read all about it here:

I like this too, today someone from the Acorn organization came forward linking the Obama campaign to Acorn. They were feeding Acorn lists of people that had already donated the legal limit fedrally to the campaign, so that Acorn could solicit further donations.

I pay 23% tax on my total gross income-if my income is 138 billion dollars, 23% of that income is $31.7 billion.

However, taking into consideration that I only made 11.86 billion in net profit out of 138 billion in gross revenue, and I paid $32 billion in taxes, my expenses and hiding my money would equal 94.14 billion. So if the company is not taxed on gross revenue but on net revenue (ie. 94.14 billion) then my tax rate is nearly 40%.

So I guess it depends if corporate taxes apply to net or gross revenue, why it wouldn't apply to gross if beyond me. I mean whats another 10 billion or 20 billion?

ACORN is a non-profit, non-partisan social justice organization with national headquarters in New York, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.

Non-partisan? I don't think so.
