"I just don't see how he can win...He has lost his brand as a maverick; he did not live up to his pledge to fight a clean campaign."
-- Rep. Chris Shays, CT co-chair of McCain campaign, on McCain

Wait.  You just unmade your point.  Now did the campaign buy them or did she buy them?  You can't have it both ways.  She didn't spend anything.

**********

Come on Scott. They spent the money but she bought them. You know the actual walking into the store and picking them out. If she had truly been the reformer she claims to be she would have refused the money they wanted to spend on clothes. If the money had come out of her pocket I would have no issue with it. We all know politicians aren't poor.

But you cannot run your campaign on being just like us and then do that. None of the others running are. And that includes McCain.

William, I know you aren't that naive.  For good or for bad, how someone looks plays a big part of how a message is perceived.  It's part of the message.

**********

I agree. But if you pick someone as your running mate who dresses so badly you feel the need to outfit her yourself, she may not have been the best choice. I personally didn't see anything wrong with the way she dressed before so I'm curious as to why the McCain campaign felt her "message" had to be changed. I really don't think the problem with the message was the clothes.

but your constant defense of Sarah Palin

I don't defend her politics.  I defend when people post falsehoods and half-truths.  By all means, rip her a new hole, but do it with the truth on things that matter.  Or, is it only right to be a decent human being to someone if you agree with their politics and anything goes if you don't?

Just a got a chuckle out of this....

Christians gathering on wall street to pray for the economy:

Seems a little too close for comfort to this:

Watch out for raining fire from the heavens.

" So feel free to eat your own crap."

Not even your analogy makes any sense, Scott. Are posting from Bizarro Earth?

It's kind of a funny photo, but that Wall Street rally seems harmless to me. Heck, in this economy, we need all the help we can get!

I find it ironic that so many people will say not all Muslims are bad and that you shouldn't judge them by the actions of a few will (which I believe) then make fun of Christians in general and try to paint them in a poor light.  The double standard is amazing.

And Scott, there's no way you were or ever have been a Democrat.

*****************

I think that kind of thinking reflects a real problem we are facing. Politics have become so polarizing - there's no longer room for divergent opinions in either party.

I can sympathize with Scott's perspective. As a small government/libertarian type of Republican, but not a social conservative, I sometimes feel marginalized. And on the flip side, it certainly seems that more conservative Democrats aren't as welcome in the Democratic Party as they used to be.

Obviously, there are fundamental differences between the two parties, but I do think there should be broad room for debate within those parties. Since we have a two-party system and not a multi-party coalition government like many European nations, it's important for both parties to be a "big tent."

Just my opinion, though.

I don't like seeing Muslims discriminated against, or their countries invaded and occupied without even any real justification whatsoever. Other than that, I don't think much of their religion.

"there's no longer room for divergent opinions in either party."

Divergent is fine. Completely opposite beliefs are fine. But don't defend the other party tooth and nail and then claim to be in the same party. Otherwise, what's the point of a "party".

What double-standard?

I did not see anywhere in Don's post where he said all Christians were
bad. It was obviously a specific reference to one specific instance which
involved the smallest handful of Christians. It was also simply meant to
juxtapose one image with another in an ironic way.

I guess whenever anyone does those "separated at birth" photo
comparisons they're being a hypocrite about something, too.

Edited to add quote for context.
