You know what's a satisfying cool breeze of a feeling?
Watching the neo-republicans shout their fear mongering nationalist rhetoric....
...and it finally not working anymore.
Catch ya later Bushy.

That's not the same as filibuster-proof. That's what this election looks like it will become. Big difference.
So if the majority of citizens vote for candidates from the same political party for President, Representatives and Senators, that is somehow a bad thing? Let's say for the sake of argument that every single citizen in the United States voted Democrat across the board. That means that the vast majority of citizens agree with the party's platform, or the candidates, or both, and got the government they prefered. And when that government enacted legislation in keeping with the party's platform, somehow that meant that the electorate was being cheated or abused or mistreated? Or that the political system had broken down?
In a society that claims to honor democracy, an overwhelming majority is "more correct" than a squeaker, as more voters are represented by the party of their choice.
I pointed out over on the Canadian Election thread that the foundation of a democracy has two facets: the majority rules, and the minority agrees to abide by the majority decision. The smaller the minority component, the stronger the mandate. When a large enough majority is reached, a fillibuster is COUNTER to the will of the people. That should be considered a good thing!

(Finally unable to resist on this subject...taking a short detour to the low road.)
I'm torn here.
On the one hand, yeah...Scott's been full of it. Whether going overboard with his position is done simply to make a point, or it's a true reflection of how he feels about the election, I dunno...but yeah...at times, he's full of it.
On the other hand, he's one of the few who doesn't seem to have bought in to the "Gosh Golly Gee Willikers Show," and is willing to call Jodi on her own particular brand of caca del toro.
Hmmm...sort of a microcosm of the presidential race.

I've been torn about Scott in this thread for a long time. I can't decide if he's serious, albeit overwrought, or if he just takes gleeful pleasure in watching the usual suspects overreact to his comments -- they are such eager little monkeys, always willing to jump through his hoops.

Oh Todd, how I have missed you, glad you are the kind of person that doesn't hold a grudge. :0) LOL
Al, Geoff and I have become pretty good friends and yet you pop in here to stick it to me, what a sad little man you must be. And I do mean that with love and Gee Wilkerness. LOL
I still think you need a big hug Todd.

On the one hand, yeah...Scott's been full of it. Whether going
overboard with his position is done simply to make a point, or it's a
true reflection of how he feels about the election, I dunno I fully admit I will give extreme examples to make a point because some on this board wear such thick blinders, that if you don't, they miss the point entirely.
On the other hand, he's one of the few who doesn't seem to have
bought in to the "Gosh Golly Gee Willikers Show," and is willing to
call Jodi on her own particular brand of caca del toro.
Her "caca del toro" is so deep you need stilts to go with the boots. I'm never afraid to call her on it because she is so far out there that it makes it easy to do. At first I thought she was attempting satire, but it didn't stop. Now, the sad part is, I honestly think she believes every single word she writes and I find that freaky as hell because some of it is so messed up it's scary.

There's a tiny bit of truth to that. Especially with Jodi. I very much enjoy calling her out on her nonsense because her responses are fascinating in a train wreck kind of way. Plus, she really can jump pretty high. She never quite catches the banana though.

Joining this party late . . . . and leaving early. The following comments do not reflect my political views (pro or con) in any way, shape or form. Just thought this little anecdote might be amusing. And if this has already been noted, then please carry on.
My wife informed me today that Family Circle magazine has been sponsoring a contest for several years. The contest starts and ends before the results of every election on Nov. 4th. The wives of the dem. and repub. candidates share a recipe for their favorite cookie. Then the readers vote on their favorite recipe. What's interesting, if not coincidental, is that for the past 16 years, the wife who won the contest . . . . it was her husband who won the election !
And . . . . it was McCain's wife who won the contest this year.
Okay (Robin Williams' fade out). . . . back to your regularly scheduled programming ! Carry on !
