"Free Ice Cream at Ben&Jerry's on Election Day!"

I am sad we don't have a Ben & Jerry's

So that's where my bag of oats disappeared to in such a hurry!

The kid that lives here calls her a "horse face". Is there some article in a guys magazine that compares her to a horse? LOL

But  I am with Marcio I think she is pretty, I thought she was a doll in Hocus Pocus.

Edited to add: OK we have had 6 trick or treaters and there is 10 mins left in the hours they can go out, Well I guess I will just have to eat all those snickers myself. :0)  Hmmmm something different I won't have to roll my kid for the snickers. ;0)

Gah. Halloween. We've had no real tradition of Halloween over here. About 20-30 years ago a fad started with young people 18-30 dressing up for Halloween in an "ironic" way. And in the last decade, they've started marketing it for kids. Meanwhile, for centuries we've had a tradition of doing the exact same thing for the "Yule buck(i.e. goat)" celebration between Christmas day and new years (on new years eve in my hometown).

Exact same thing. Dressing up in costumes, begging for candy (only we threaten to start caroling rather than egging houses.) in a tradition that goes back to a pre-christian celebration of a pagan death god (In our case "Yule" or Odin rather than Samhein).

So Halloween over here basically means celebrating New Years 2 months early. Which is kind of appropriate since they moved the start of Christmas shopping (traditionally delayed to December 1st to mark the beginning of Advent) to October 1st.

I think someone changed the calendar and forgot to tell us.

Knut, in Brazil there is no tradition for hallowenn either, but as a kid, I would have loved those parties....and one of my favorite movies is the Nightmare before Christmas by Tim Burton...

I've followed this thread for quite awhile, and the disappointing thing is the number of hypocrites on both sides and its equal, neither side is better or worse.  I support the Conservatives in Canada, since I support them I hold them to a higher standard than the Liberals or NDP.  I am the first one to critize them when they flip-flop or do something stupid.  I could give you a laundry list of things I don't like about them right now.  I'm never shy to say what they are doing wrong and I probably talk more about what they are doing wrong than what the do right.

For example someone posted a stat of the ratio of attack ads from Mccain's camp to Obama's camp.  Mccain had more.  Unless Obama had zero negative attack ads against Mccain (which he didn't), democrats can't complain about Mccains negative attack ads.  It doesn't matter who started it, or who is doing more, if both sides are doing it, both sides are guilty.  Obama should have said he wouldnt' use negative attack ads, and then run ads saying "I won't use negative attack ads, instead I'll tell you what I will do a president"  That would have been so much more effective than doing the same negative politics.  Both sides are just as dirty.  Both sides would love to find dirt on the other and release it to the media.

Sorry to be off topic, Jodi, what to you mean there is only 10 minutes left in when they can go out?  Is there a local rule?  Here there is no rule, though its generally over by 8pm.  I've had 17 trick or treaters, last year i had about 50.  I bought 200 treats!.  I live on a cresent, and kids take the longer way around and continue on their way, my shorter street gets ignored.  Though I can't believe the huge drop from last year because the weather is perfect, dry and warm enough.  On a side note I find the kids very polite and happy, and a much higher percentage of boys say thank-you than girls.  And very few kids are out without their parents in tow.

Regarding Ayers, I don't understand the venom at Obama for his links to Ayers, that venom should be directed at the justice system and the government for Ayers not going to jail.  How can you be angry at Obama for his links to Ayers when Ayers was allowed to get away with his crimes scot free?  The difference between Ayers and Bin Laden, if we knew where Bin Laden was, say working at a University in the USA, he would be on trial and executed.  Ayers was never convicted or even tried for anything.  I don't know why he got away with it, but its not Obama's fault.
