That shows what kind of a person she is despite the facade she attempts to display.

I just got back from my sons school, I volunteer in the library most mornings so I missed Scotts "Fair and Balanced" opinion of me. LOL

You want Jodi to speak out against a stupid radio station prank in which their was no hatred involved, just stupidity.

William thanks, Someone stole my Obama sign, sucks and was mad, but no real biggie, I just went out and put up another. But, if  someone painted the KKK on it, I would call the police.

Oh my goodness, Scott, she's a d .. d.. d... Democrat !

Joe I will go a little further, I am a pro gay marriage, tree hugging, anti war democrat and an atheist to boot.  Am I going to Hell or what? LOL

Damn Marcio way to scare me by putting that picture of Cheney up. LOL

By my recollection, when there have been hateful things done by supporters of either side she's condemned them.

Thanks Geoff, I do because the hate displays do nothing but hurt your party. Like the "Palin is a cunt" shirt someone posted  I said they were stupid because they are. After the last 8 years I am sick of the hatefulness,  that is why Obama is like a breath of fresh air.

I agree, Geoff. Jodi absolutely is a good egg.

Bruce I feel the same way about you, you and Geoff are examples I use when I am talking to someone about being  good republicans.

But I really do feel that if an Obama supporter did the same thing she would say it was hateful

William thanks, my love of kids trumps politics, so yes I would.

On Reagan, the one thing he did better than others, he made you feel good to be an American. Not in a we are better than you way.

On a side note, my thought is that Jodi imagined that McCain supporters would rise to say "shame on you" when their candidate is slighted. I am surprised that she is now expected to rail against both sides... ;-)

Monte you are right all of us can't be "fair and balanced" like Scott. LOL love when I can use a fox reference.

I also agree with William and Scott - this strikes me as a classic "separate but unequal" arrangement.

In my opinion, the government should get out of the marriage business completely. Every marriage - straight or gay - should be legally recognized by the government as a "civil union," with the same legal status and benefits (filing joint taxes, power of attorney, property succession, etc.) applying to all.

From there, churches can still recognize and conduct marriages as they see fit. I got married in a church and that had significance to me going beyond the legal implications. If the Episcopalians want to recognize gay marriages within their church, fine. If the Baptists don't want to recognize gay marriage at their church, that's fine too. But everyone gets treated the same under the law.

But everyone gets treated the same under the law.

Such a simple concept...so difficult for so many to understand.  Why on earth would a group of people gather together to remove the rights allowed to another group...no other word covers it but BIGOTRY.

I live in Texas and I imagine gay marriages or  civil unions for that matter will e a long time in the coming, but I have a laywer friend who works with many Gay couples to help insure in a legalese iron clad way that whatever rights they can squeeze out of today's laws they get.

Agreed, Bruce.  It seems so simple, and yet..

The gay marriage issue is going to be a very interesting issue when it reaches the US Supreme Court (which is where I think its headed).  There are so many, many issues involved.  Does DOMA violate the Full Faith and Credit Clause and principles of comity?  Are homosexuals a "suspect class" (similar to race or gender) under the 14th Amendment of the Federal Constitution (as was found by the California Supreme Court in the In Re Marriage cases)?*  Does the Federal Government's refusal to recognize civil unions as "marriages" for legal and tax purposes constitute a violation of the Equal Protection Clause?  I think the answer to all of these questions is "yes" but I am no constitutional law scholar.

I do think it will be a few years before the High Court hears the cases (though I guess if the California Proposition 8 were to pass it could "fast track" the issue).  Assuming that the case is not fast tracked we could have a very different Court hearing the case depending on the outcome of tomorrow's election.

*Based on my recollection of the case the majority in Lawrence v. Texas might not agree, though I think to see otherwise is to view the world with blinders (unless one is opposed to the entire idea of "suspect classes" which is then a matter of constitutional ideology).

Sacrament?  Did the Jews, Christians, and Muslims INVENT marriage?  Or were people mating/pairing-up before the birth of those (all?) religions?

This "marriage as a sacrament" argument is beginning to remind me of the LIE that religion invented morality (i.e., right & wrong).

Jodi said: Paul didn't it make you feel good being there, when I went to see him, I felt like it was the best of this country, all ages, all races, men and woman standing united to try to make this a better country. There was no hate talk or nastiness. I was so uplifted I felt this is what being an American should feel like.

Geoff said: I feel that way every time I see Bruce Springsteen!

*****************************************

Jodi, I agree that is how I felt at the rally. They had everyone hold hands while a Reverend said a prayer. I'm a 37 year old white male holding hands with a 50-something black woman and 70 year Asian woman. It was nice to see all the people living the dream. (Final count was over 80,000 for the rally.) Sadly, I think the dream will be over tomorrow. The fearful and the hateful people of this country will be the deciding factor on this close election. (I have $50 bucks I'm hoping to lose to O'Brien that proves me wrong.) I'm not saying people who support McCain's ideas about the war or our economy fall into that category. But there has been a huge appeal on the ignorant masses that the black man with a "Muslim" name will ruin our country. As Obama said last night, "Don't be bamboozled or hoodwinked. Don't fall for the okey doke."

Geoff, Bruce has that effect on me as well. :)

You don't HAVE to have a wedding to be married.  You DO have to go to the courthouse to be married.  If you needed to PROVE you were married to some supercilious government official, are you gonna bring your license, or that cute picture of your niece pinching Uncle Moishe's tuchis in the conga line?

If you're married, you're in a civil union.  And yet the world didn't end...
