Tears of joy after just eating a baby?

Maybe he was thinking of his just passed away grandmother.

Joke dude. Maybe given the circumstances not made at the best of times. But a joke nonetheless. I made the post with no knowledge of his Grandmother dying.

I got to the polls about 10 minutes before they opened this morning.  Normally there is no line and when the doors open I go in and vote.  There were nearly a hundred and fifty people in line in front of this morning and when I left there were at least another hundred still in line outside.  That gives me a glimmer (a very small glimmer) of hope for McCain since the surrounding neighborhoods that make up the 2 precincts are predominantly Republican and full of lawns plastered with McCain signs.

If it's like this all across the nation, we should end up with historic numbers of voters turning out to vote.

I voted.  There were a couple hundred people in line -- waited about an hour -- but it was congenial enough.  I love waiting in lines and chatting with perfect strangers over utter nonsense.

I will say, it felt more comfortable than the '04 election!  Maybe... just maybe... we can unite this country!

I don't see the lines as a problem at all - in fact, I take it as a sign that people are interested in this election. Early predictions show that today may draw a record turnout. I voted last week and there was still an hour-long wait for early voting.

I believe people around the world sometimes get a distorted view of our electoral process because of what they see and read in the media. But 99.99% of the time, it works just fine.

I am watching footage on CNN with Obama voting. He has been staring at his ballot in the booth for about five minutes. What do you guys have on your ballots? Like mentioned before, in Canada you have a ballot with four to six names on it and you make an x beside the name of the person you want to win. Maybe 30 seconds. Do they make you solve a quadratic equation before you vote in the US? And the line-ups! Crazy! What's going on?

Lines will usually be long right after the polls open and right before they close. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes when I've gone in the middle of the day.

Neil, there's more than just the presidential race on the ballot. Much more.

You've also got an entire slate of state offices - here in North Carolina, we've got races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State School Superintendent, Secretary of State, State Auditor, Attorney General, State Treasurer and commissioners of Insurance, Agriculture and Labor.

Plus you have U.S. Senate and House of Representative races, judicial races, local government races (Town Council, Board of Education, County Commissioners, Soil & Water District, etc.) and, in some places, bond referenda. There's much more to vote on than just the Presidential election.

Holy crap. You have to bring in a cheat sheet before you vote.

As for the lineups, why can't they simply open more polling stations? I have never seen a lineup in Canada, and each polling stations probably does not get more than a few thousand people voting. There are stations all over the place so there are no lineups.
