Welcome to the dark side, John.

Just got a call from my daughter....she went to the Moose Lodge where we vote and she said she was done in less than ten minutes. I'll be going during my lunch break.

so I had to pass a bunch of signs and last minute persuaders just to get through the front doors!

I knew something was missing!  This morning there wasn't a single person set up at a table trying to sway votes one way or the other.  Maybe it was too early?  I don't recall ever seeing that before.

Curious as to why you voted for Obama, JB?

Yeah. Bless them for their public service, but I think most of the poll workers here worked the polls during the Taft administration.

That's usually the case, but this time most of the poll workers at my station were young and cute. And of course, this time I just chose to roll out of bed and head out to vote, waiting to shower and dress properly after I was done.

I have voted at the same polling station for the last 8 years, and I've never had to wait until today. Took an hour to get through the line.

Voted weeks ago.

I've been "absentee" for years, because it gives me no excuse to not vote so I vote in even the minor "one issue" balloting.

But up until I went to voting by mail, I never had to wait more than 5 minutes to vote, even during the busiest of times and no matter which area of Seattle I have voted. Is that because Washington isn't a battleground state for these national elections?

Voted in my new town. It took me longer to register than it did to wait in line and vote! It was busy, but there were a lot of rooms with a lot of voting boots, so it went pretty smooth. Maybe 5 - 10 minutes of waiting in line.

True. Seems to take away some of the responsibility, too. I voted McCain though I have full knowledge that there's practically no way he'd ever win in New York State (unless the Bradley effect is humongous here, which I doubt). So, if Obama wins, (which is likely), and things take a turn for the worse, I could say that I tried at least, and it's my state's "fault". If McCain wins and things get worse, I could say that my vote didn't go towards making him win, anyway. If things get better under either candidate...well, I guess I didn't "help" either way.....

And yet so many people think there's nothing wrong with your electoral
system...

Yeah....really it's just the citizens of swing states that really get to feel like they play an important role in the political process.

Mind you, I have no love for either candidate. My vote was more of a "protest" against the Obama hive mentality, plus his relative inexperience.
