So, if Obama wins, (which is likely), and things take a turn for the
worse,
Vinny, Vinny, Vinny...
If things take a turn for the worse??? 7 years of a pointless, un-payed for, trillion dollar war. The evaporation of the middle class. Signing statements circumventing the Constitution. Gulags. Corporations run amok. The corruption of the Justice Dept. Inept governing. Massive increase in the national debt, with little to nothing to show for it. Lobbyist writing legislation. Katrina.
Why not let someone else fuck up the world for awhile, huh? Why be so selfish?
Let the sun shine on change.

Geoff,
Where you see engagement (good thing) I see bad planning, lack of appropriate resources. That is why I am sad about that, you see, Brazil have 120 million voters and ZERO lines like that, ok that voting here is mandatory while in US is not, but, honestly, if I had to face a line like that, I am not so sure I would wait so long, specially if I am old or if it's cold. Hope next president fix that.

Rich,
Yes, I know all of the Pro-bama talking points by heart, but thanks for the reminder. And I said "if". Call me a cynic. If we have another terrorist attack (and as a NYer I have to worry about that more than many others on this forum), then yes, I'd call that a case of things getting worse.

What shouldn't happen? ++++
LINESSSSS. The most important right in a democracy and you have to wait??? That is not fair!!! I think of myself with 18 years old, there is NO WAY I would wait to vote.... that is the sad part.
The civic example of patriotism is beautiful, but the government is clearly making it hard to people to vote. more than it should.

Thank you for posting that.
My main objection to the other link was that Fox "News" made it all about republicans.
And those 2 idiots blocking the way should have been taken away in handcuffs.

Are you addressing one of your posts to me, Marcio? Why?
For what it's worth, a large part of the USA votes electronically. I do so, myself, and have for the last two presidential elections. Also, keep in mind that in the last presidential election, we had a registered-voter population topping 174,000,000, with a voter turnout of 122, 294, 978 voters.

Marcio -- Every other time I have voted in the last 18 years, I have been in and out of the polling places in 5 minutes or less. This is an extraordinary election with an extraordinary public response, and the lines are much longer in some districts than others.
Because voting is mandatory in Brazil, I expect it is rather easy to predict what will happen at each polling place.
I do agree that the US should move to easy-to-use foolproof electronic voting machines. Paper ballots in the 21st Century? Bizarre!

****************
Two points:
1. Voter turnout levels are expected to reach record levels today - even higher than the 1960 election for John F. Kennedy. So this isn't a typical election day.
2. While some people are waiting in long lines, others aren't. Most states have added early voting opportunities in the weeks before the election for the convenience of voters.

Vinny, there was about a 7 year length of time between the first attack on the WTC and the second. Simply because there hasn't been an additional attack in the time since then doesn't mean that Bush and company did a bang up job of preventing them. There is nothing that points to a lack of attacks being directly attributable to the current administration. As a NYer that lived in the city during the first attack and lost friends in the second, I have felt less safe in the time and events since the second attack than I did in the time prior to it.

Perhaps not. But it's hard to prove a negative either way. I worry that Obama will appear to be soft on terrorism and inexperienced that someone will want to test that theory out. Even Biden implied it. I hope I'm wrong though. I really do.
