After eight years of the Republican's divisive politics, is there any way
anyone can be a consensus-builder again?

I believe its possible but you need both parties to do so. If its McCain it
means Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid needs to be willing to work with him. If
its Obama or Clinton then the minority party has to be willing to come to
some concessions as well. I think McCain has a history of working across
the aisle. I think Clinton has as well, I'm not as sure about Obama but if he
wants to be successful he will have to thats for sure. Successful presidents
do that. Reagan and Clinton did it.

Here's Bob Herebert's take on Reverand Wright:

I think he's hit the nail on the head, there.

Yeah, Al I think Herbert has read the situation right as well.

I think Senator Obama's response is right on:

“What particularly angered me is his suggestion somehow that my previous
denunciation of his remarks was somehow political posturing,” Mr. Obama
said. “Anybody who knows me and anybody who knows what I’m about
knows that I’m about trying to bridge gaps and I see the commonality in all
people.”

Obama actually looked mad in the press conference. It's probably good for him to show some emotion.

Maybe Obama has had his "tears in a coffee shop" moment like Hillary had in
New Hampshire.*

* Not my observation I just heard it on MSNBC.

Obama was definitely pissed, but not quite "tears in the coffee shop".....  His emotion was real, Clinton's was obviously faked.

I concur - let's hope authenticity plays with the general public!

I am sure something impossibly stupid will dominate the news soon. Let's
see if Wright keeps his mouth shut and stops being that something.

Hey, Geoff - since we both agree that Wright is a fool, let me play devil's advocate here for a moment... in light of, say, 400 years of such things, but specifically the Tuskegee Experiment, is it really so far-fetched that AIDS could be an out-of-control experiment?  I'm not saying that it is, but really, in light of all that's come before it, do you at least understand the context in which someone could come to such a conclusion?

I want to note - Wright saying it is far from the first time I've heard the theory - in fact, I have an old issue of Rolling Stone magazine from 1992 where, promoting Malcolm X, Spike Lee makes a similar suggestion.  The idea has been around for a long time.

Now, if you think THAT's a conspiracy theory, ask me about what REALLY happened at Port Chicago...
