Just being facetious with the title of the thread but it really is the topic.

As a long-time fan of JB, one thing I always liked but never really dwelt upon much on were the interiors and decor he drew.   I liked how Jean Grey's family home was modeled on the "Bewitched" set and in "Hidden Years," a bachelorette pad was based upon the "Friends" apartment.

But one question I have for JB is - with recurring locations such as the Baxter Building or X-Mansion, did you map it out so that you knew exactly what door they'd be entering in from what room?

I also liked the interior design touches. The interlocking rings motif on dresses and curtains you'd see in your early 80s work- how was that done? I know it's probably a simple answer but to a guy who doesn't draw, it just looked so cool.  The homes and apartments you drew always looked like people really lived there.

It’s important to remember that the instances you cite were done long before photo/video reference was available, so the Stephens’ house was drawn strictly from memory. (Compare with the use in ELSEWHEN, where I had access to Google.)

The Baxter Building interiors were all invented, and I made no effort to create consistency from issue to issue.

I remember being impressed with the model that Gerhard came up with for the Melmoth arc of Cerebus.

It’s worth noting that when Marvel decided to do a trade paperback of what came to be known as “The Trial of Galactus”, I offered to do a pro bono edit/rewrite to make the collection read as less episodic. This was agreed to, and to my great delight I quickly discovered that my habit of ending each page on a kind of mini-cliffhanger—ie, ending scenes at lower right—meant the scenes often blending together even if there had originally been months between them!

I’d noticed that self-contained page aspect was a stylistic choice you have in common with (of all artists) Peter Bagge.
