Wow. I wish I had all day free to deep dive into this...! So much amazing art work.

And then there's this...

"Trampling Art for Profits."

Hmph.

I really love the 1950s artwork where everybody looks so nifty in their new gleaming homes.

Some of these remind me a lot of the work of the late Bruce McCall, whose retro-futuristic stuff was often featured in The New Yorker.

What's in almost every image is hope for a wondrous future.
Cool, when we had that.

Hey, when I was a kid even nuclear war was “hopeful”.

Afterwards, we’d get to ride the giant grasshoppers!

Ah, retro-futurism! I would not be disappointed if we started designing things to look more of this style.

I would love to see fins come back on cars—not that I plan to give up either of my Old Reliables within what is left of my lifetime.

When I was growing up, my father had two cars with fins, a 1959 Plymouth Fury and a 1959 Rambler Ambassador. The latter looked very much like a 1957 Chevy.

Bit of heartbreak, there. I learned to drive in the Rambler, and had convinced myself it would eventually become my first car. But one day I came home from school to find a ‘65 Rambler in our parking slot. Dad had “traded up” without a word to me!!

I didn’t even get to say goodbye!! <:-(

"...a 1959 Plymouth Fury..."

One year shy of being the same model year as Christine!

Curious thing about that Plymouth—it was a “city car”, issued to my dad when he headed the Planning Department a city hall in Edmonton. It was painted dark green and at a glance looked like a police car. It even had a city crest decal on each of the two front doors.

Amusingly, the first time dad drove it home a real police car followed him. The cops wanted to know what a civilian was doing driving one of their vehicles! :-)

Picked up this book in Ollies for cheap a couple of years ago. Fascinating stuff and very much in this vein.
