I don't mind "running at the reader" and other similar shots for the covers of first issues, but after that...

I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of comic book history, so forgive me if I am leaving out any other artist who is also deserving, but for my money, and as far as I remember from my own personal "Golden Age Of Comics", George Perez, Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and John Byrne are the best comic book cover artists EVER.

All you need to do is take a look at any of Byrne's FF or Alpha Flight or X-men or  Blood Of The Demon or Doom Patrol work (Yeah! Again, Fuck anyone who says "His Old Stuff Was Better" , Byrne's recent covers are as kickass as anything he's done ever) , Perez' Teen Titans, Avengers or Wonder Woman work, and just about anything JLGL did for DC...
Those three guys are imo the Holy Trinity of comic book cover creation...not to mention three of the most distinctive, influential artists of all time.
Seriously, do you think any of today's insta-celebrities will be around and relevant 20,30 years from now?

I like the idea of Bobby squeaking as his icy sheath cracks and refreezes-- I'd think the Thing squeaks a little bit, with his rocky plates rubbing against each other.

Excellent shot of the team and particularly Cyclops, JB. I can barely look at the character in the books now, he just seems wrong.

Looking back at this one, I would have guessed that this was Byrne inked by....Simonson? Perez? Someone else, in any case.

Squeak is not the right word. It suggests a dog toy.

Bobby would crackle, Ben would sound like sheets of coarse sandpaper rubbing against each other.
