This image makes me wonder what JB could do with Alpha today. The handling of a scene that 20 odd years ago would have been much flatter to the action as opposed to the nice perspective use we see today. Hats off to th' man!

Does anyone have the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe from that time period?  I remember they made reference to his ability to do cartwheels at such a speed and force.

There's a rather cruel irony in this, of course.

Ouch.

I REALLY love this commision but then I'm a sucker for your Alpha Flight and those were three of my favourite characters.

The Canada geese are a nice touch.

I just checked the trade. It says he is able to "execute a series of cartwheels with such a speed and force that he can bowl over a crowd of people almost twice his size".

Of all the odd choices Bill made, how he dealt with Puck was oddest of all. After all, I had already established -- via Judd himself -- the disorder with which Puck was aflicted.

***

And John, you also established that Bochs was not a true acquaintance of Madison Jeffries in the early part of the book, but that didn't stop (I beleive) Bill  from establishing that they were "best friends" from before their get together at Boch's home.

I found this:

Reflexes: Even prior to his upgrade, Puck trained himself to be the best shape possible. He could act out many battle tactics in his head only in a fraction of a second and in the next heartbeat act. In the same handbook they had Puck and Spider-Man with the same reflexes.

Speed: After having his body compressed, Puck gained superhuman speed, with the ability to run 111-115 miles per hour

Stamina: After having his body compressed, Puck gained superhuman stamina: the ability to sustain peak exertion before fatigue impairs performance up to one day. As noted by Puck, fatique isn't a factor with his upgraded body

Strength: After compressed, Puck gained superhuman strength. He is Superhuman Class 10, able to press 2-10 tons.

Yoga: Trained by an old Hindu named Dr. Srivinda, Puck learned to slow his breathing and alter his body temperature. He can be submerged in the freezing Arctic water for minutes without repercussions, this prior to him gaining his altered physiology.

Awesome piece JB, it certainly brings back the nostalgia for Alpha Flight, done right.

I always loved the image of Puck knocking down soldiers with his cartwheel attack.

I have a few questions:

Is there a proper name for the 'ghost images' action?

Do you happen to know where this technique originated?

The first time I saw it was in Miller's Daredevil but pretty sure it was used in Spider-Man, Daredevil, and probably started from The Flash.

Do the Puck images on the same commission, count as multiple characters?

Good commission JB.

Bill Mantlo is one of my favorite comicbook writers, but on Alpha Flight his take didn't work for me.

I certainly miss his other works, Spectacular Spider-Man, Rom, Marvel team-up, etc...

Actualy i think i loved everything he did with Sal Buscema, and his Micronautes.

How was it to work with him on the Champions?

I'm not sure how this affects the commission count.  Will Puck get one blip or four?

Also, JB, you nailed the details on this one.  Aurora's hair, eyebrow(s), Puck's boots and body hair, Sasquatch's head/face/neck (which may sound funny, but so many artists get that part of his anatomy wrong), etc.  Definitely my favorite commission in a long while.
