My favorite Demon story is still the first one that I read, Detective Comics #601-603. It's the first time Alan Grant wrote the character, and Norm Breyfogle's art was perfect for the Demon.

I like Jack Kirby's charcters when they are as is, JB has mastered it it, I don't know how he gets it right even when they guest star, but he does. I dislike regular DC stories pre-Kirby style where they don't have a villain and decide to toss in Darkseid or the Demon and fight them a little for one issue.

"Believe, Sancho!" says Aldonza, near the end of "Man of La Mancha". In a nutshell, that's how to handle Kirby characters -- or any other super folk.

SHOWCASE PRESENTS: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD vol.3 opens with a
gorgeous JIM APARO Batman/Demon team-up. I've spent the last few days
drooling over it. It may well have been Aparo's best job ever.

Like, THAT would be easy to pick! Right!
But it's certainly one of the most atmospheric stories in the volume. I
guess he really got into the Jason Blood character.

I'm so glad I got my hands on the Brave and the Bold series from Neal Adams first issues all the way to the final. I looked through that Demon issues yesterday and the art was gorgeous. Even better in color.

That's a pretty good nutshell. Too bad it's almost completely missing from comics these days.
I don't need or want every little detail explained or broken down for me.
Superman can fly because he can is good enough for me.

If you see humor in a man being turned into essentially a quadruple amputee, you must have a very strange notion of "fun".
---------------
That sounds a bit morbid. I don't see the tragedy in turning an able-bodied comic book supporting character into a pillow-with-an-attitude comic book supporting character (who eventually got better). No question about it being strange, though.
