Now starting RED GOLD (1999) by Alan Furst, the fifth novel in his "Night Soldiers" espionage thriller series set in Europe from 1933 - 1943. All of the books in the series, with the exception of this one and its prequel, are basically stand-alone novels that feature various lead characters.
This novel has a semi-famous film producer named Jean Casson who finds himself drawn into the Resistance in Paris in 1941 just after Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa against Russia and Stalin called for all of his spies and partisans across Europe to initiate sabotage efforts to undermine the Nazis in the occupied areas.
