I spoke to Liefeld twice. Once was at a San Diego con, briefly, and once was over the phone when he called to tell me he had created Supreme with the hope that I would write and draw the series. I replied that if I was going to do a Superman rip-off if would be my own Superman rip-off.

Neither exchange involved gastronomical contemplation.

I don’t like him? What have I ever said or done to indicate such a thing?

My objection is to his work and business habits. As a human being he occupies virtually no space in my brain.

I had an experience at the NYCC where I was upset with myself.

JB was signing that Marvel universe Artist edition at the IDW table.  I got JB's signature and photo.  It was a live photo so also a 3 second video with JB and me.  I was like, cool.  I missed getting a pic at the end of the Kirby 100th year birthday celebration, cause JB was mobbed shaking hands and taking quick pics.

Then I go on youtube months later and someone got an interview with JB at the IDW table....  and I thought, I SHOULD HAVE WENT BACK TO THE IDW table!!!

Quite some chutzpah with the Supreme thing. I've 'created' this Superman analogue. Now, can you draw and write it, because I want it to be good and I'm tired from all the heavy creative lifting.

I have long said it plays like this:

I say GREEN.

Someone responds GREEN? Byrne said GREEN?

Some else chimes in GREEN? You mean like BLUE and YELLOW?

Then BLUE and YELLOW? So he said YELLOW?

He said YELLOW? That f*cker!!

Liefeld mentioned that Marvel is kissing his and Robert Kirkman's ass so they can have a crossover with TRANSFORMERS, which he now owns the license to.

Except he left out the fact that Marvel already had such a crossover back when IDW had the license.

I just thought of a deliciously snarky comment—but I shall exercise restraint!

So I wanted to do a little background on the YouTube post and poster to which Rick Whiting linked.

The poster was born February 12, 1971, making him 55 years old. From his utterances he starting reading comics when he was 10 years old and has been a comic book store owner for 25 years. There was no mention of his childhood residences. The poster currently resides in the state of Michigan, with Detroit being the nearest large city.

He relates the story with a local convention and having a dealer's booth also taking Marvel age #14 (on-sale date of 1984-02-07) to have John Byrne sign. Further he has John's table adjacent to Howard Chaykin's table.

Since the poster says he was a dealer and presuming a minimum age of 18, to so take part in the convention than the earliest possible year of the local convention would be 1989. A search of possible local conventions using Detroit and Michigan as parameters did not reveal any occurrences where John Byrne and Howard Chaykin both attended. A single occurrence was found where both attended, but it was the Great Eastern Convention of 1994 in New York.

Anyone from the Michigan area, who attended conventions in the late 80s and early 90s recall meeting JB?

So, I remember meeting JB at a Motor City con around the time that DANGER UNLIMITED was coming out (I think issue #4 hadn't hit yet). Great experience, he listened to my teenage self asking questions about the Last Galactus Story. I remember Chaykin and George Perez being in the general vicinity (it was actually a great con experience, a ton of guests that just...aren't with us anymore, like Curt Swan and Julie Schwartz).

So this would have been....jeez, 94/95? Getting old is terrible, I can't remember exact dates anymore.

Man, I remember that flyer, that's wild. Maybe the first or second year after they moved to Novi from Dearborn.
