And if you don’t believe it, you are dumber than moon dust.

(One of my younger gal pals is married to a moon landing denier. It makes it hard to have ANY serious conversations with him. )

"We choose to go to the Moon and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard!"

JFK

Chokes me up every time.

I reconnected with a childhood friend a few years before the pandemic, and can still remember the sinking feeling I had in the pit of my stomach when I learned he was a conspiracy nut. Not only was he a moon landing conspiracy theorist, but he had no idea that we “supposedly” went there multiple times. Like a number of people I used to know, I excised him from my life after January 6.

When I encounter those idiots on the internet, I like to out-conspiracy them. They say the moon landing was a hoax? I tell them, “you actually think there’s a moon?”

I wonder if a lot of Moon landing deniers deny it because they're also Flat Earthers?

It's amazing how there's more technology in any mobile phone today than they used in the Sixties to fake the entire space program.

I spent 36 hours parked in front of the TV. My local channel picked up the NBC feed.

Oft repeated, a “favorite moment” came right after Neil Armstrong spoke his historic words. (I heard the “a”.) The image on screen cut to a man sitting behind a desk, read something without audio. My memory insists the image was black and white.

It lasted only a few seconds, and then we were back to David Brinkley ruminating on the vast significance of the day. He concluded with “And in case you’re wondering where that image came from, of a man behind a desk—so are we!”

All these years since I have been convinced it was the Russians pranking NASA.

You can tell that conspiracy theorists have never been Project Managers.

And as if the Cold War Russians wouldn't have been happy to provide proof the US didn't go to the moon if that was the case.

A tiny part of my brain imagines some representative of the US government contacting the Soviets to say “Let us get away with this, and the Space Race is over. Think of all the money you’d have to spend on other things!”

I don’t believe it, but I wish my native cynicism would let me abandon the thought entirely.
