YouTubes auto subtitles can’t understand a single word.

I once endured myself to our water processes lecturer when in one lecture
he was going through some months and he ended with ‘and then, it’s
bloody January again’
I was the only one in the class that acknowledged what he said, knew where
it was from.
I was his favourite from that moment on.
Previously he had struggled with us as there were two groups in his lectures
- the chemists who were his people, and us environmentalists - who most
certainly were not. Until that moment.

I can remember the manually operated, wooden-gated rail
crossing a couple of minutes walk from me. It lead to the
canal wharf where coal was loaded onto barges from the
local mine. In the 70's when the mine and that rail line
was gone, the barges were submerged in the wharf. I read
it was to preserve them and stop the timbers drying out.
Now it's a green haven for nature. The old line is either
a nature path, or people's gardens. The signal box near
the old mine, is now a home. I found old pictures of
these places online, and i recently took photos of in the
same spots for comparison one with a steam engine
travelling hrough is now a house, but the old house next
door is still there. I will add, that The Flying Scotsman
sometimes travels through nearby on the existing line,
and it always draws a crowd.
