George:  No, I'm not.  I'm more of an amatuer designer, the sculpts are done by a good friend of mine, who is a professional.  With his guidance, I am trying to learn to sculpt though.  My first attempt is on a Firestorm that I'm currently working on.

Jesse - as an amatuer designer, do you draw the sketches for these pieces yourself or just pull printed art and let the sculptor do what they do after that offering suggestions for changes during the WIP?  Also, with your Firestorm -- are you sculpting from a lump of raw clay or customizing an existing figure sculpted by another artist?  Post some pictures of Firestorm WIP - we'd all love to see it.

John Peter Britton, I don't know if you are aware of
this, but there is a video showing the sculptor make
that Conan sculpt. Might be interesting to people to see
 the process.

No problem, John. That's a great video. I learned a lot
from it myself. I found out I was doing it the hard way.

Target has joined the "exclusive mighty muggs" club.  I came across these when I went into work today.  Just when I think I'm finally caught up on these things, there's another set thats come out!  It never ends!!!!

Thom ... a little bit of both actually.
Sometimes, I'll draw a rough draft of the pose that I'm looking for, then give the sculptor as much printed artwork with as much detail as I can of the character in question.

Sometimes I just find a piece of artwork that totally works ... like Raven ... and just do some simple tweaks in Photoshop

Right now, I've got painting down, I'm painting all of my own pieces, so I've moved on to sculpting.  But like painting, it's a step by step process ... so I'm learning to do conversions first ... here is a Bowen Daredevil Mini Bust (the original version), that I converted to a Shroud ...

  Here's Firestorm ...

And let me tell you, sculpting FIRE is a BEAR!!!

Hm. Seems like a lot was lost between the She-Hulk drawing and the
sketch. Much like what seems to happen with so many of the drawings
Adam Hughes has done, when they are translated to 3D.

(Not sure about Raven rising from a mound of croissants, either. . . )
