Yeah ... I have a tendency to cross-hatch the living shite out of
everything, and to use that to cover up bad drawing. Consequently, I'm
trying to shake myself out of my old ink style by inking in every style
except my old one!

That big ol' hand of Hellboy's don't half bugger up the perspective,
though.

Yeah ... that largely is the inks. There's supposed to be a main light
behind and above HB, and a secondary (rim) light in front and below. I
think if I'd rendered the tentacles in the same style as the main figure
then the lighting would look more consistent but -- as noted above --
I'm kind of subjecting myself to inking multiple personality disorder.

Fingers crossed something coherent comes out of the other end!

Edit to add: in case the above reads as a bit defensive -- it's not
supposed to. Feedback is ALWAYS appreciated!

Cheers

Jim

Not at all, I was just hoping you wouldn't be offended by
my critique, you can never tell sometimes on messageboards.

Jim great Hellboy.

I think your inking style is fine.
I do see you trying some techniques that a long time comic veteran told me to work on. I'll pass them along to everyone as they've really helped my work.

1. the 3x3 rule. As a penciler and or inker you have 3 different colors to work with,
black, gray, and white. You also have 3 different planes to draw in, foreground,
midground and background. Assign one color per plane. This helps add depth
    to a panel.

2.The closer an object gets to the "camera" the thicker the line.

3.The nose knows where the shadow goes. Establish your light source by adding
shadow to the nose of a character and make sure the rest of the character
   follows that light source.

The guy who told me these learned them from Dick Giordano and Wally Wood.
Some artists instinctively do these. I don't. I'm always learning and looking for more knowledge, I thought you folks might appreciate it, if your having trouble.
If not, just disregard.
