Looking pretty good there, Dave.  I could see this working in a B&W comic.

Anthony and Valmor also impressed me this week.  I wonder how the guaches compare with watercolors, and the classic Universal Studios monsters theme is a plus.

Before I sign off...

This is a closeup of a piece that I just scanned this afternoon.  I used the following inking tools:

  • Pelikan brand fount India ink
  • Zebra G-series cartooning nib (outlines)
  • Hunt #104 crowquill nib (smaller details in the face)
  • Winsor & Newton Cotman III #2 brush (black areas in hair)

This was done on a 12 × 9 inch sheet of 2-ply smooth finish Strathmore Bristol board, but I noticed the annoying feathering in the linework right away.  Not so bad that it ruined the piece, but enough to make me wonder how it happened again, since my previous work on the same type of media this summer didn't get that.  I suspect that the paper absorbed moisture from the air after being explosed to humidity (I opened the windows overnight).

I'm thinking about going out to buy some new art material tomorrow morning!

And I ordered a Wacom Bamboo Connect to try my hand at digital too!

Getting rid of the the rust!

I'm kind of curious about that gray tone effect that you put on your Spider-Man pic above, Sebastien.  How did you do that?

Speaking of sketches, here are a couple from my previous week's sketchings.

Carmen, do you mean in the smoke?  For that, I used an old "B" size Pitt pens, which - because of its' age - allows me to use it to give a "feathering" look to elements within my drawings.  As far as any other gray tones in there, it's probably caused by the fact that I take pictures of my art with my Nikon camera, as I don't have a large enough scanner to scan my pieces.  I usually adjust the brightness and contrast in Paint Shop Pro but I never got around to doing it for this particular drawing so it's quite grey...

Actually, I was meaning the shading in the picture of Spider-Man above the battle against the Lizard.  It looks a bit like a wash in the highlight areas on Spidey's costume where the blue color would go.  I guess that's what you mean by the feathering (akin to what JB used as a dry brush effect on some of his commission pieces).
