Ohhhh...i see now. You can't tell because of the size of the picture but those are all small lines created using the XS Pitt pens. Basically, it's cross-hatching. I was trying to replicate the pattern of the movie costume and that's how it turned out.

You did mention that you were using a digital camera instead of a scanner. I guess I didn't think about how large those drawings actually are. The XS PITT pen is more the equivalent of a 0.5 mm lead, so I can see where the resolution of the shot makes the lines look like gray shading. Back to the topic:
My latest exercise in using colored pencil. I'll probably have a series of these little color sketches, some in watercolor or marker as well as with colored pencil.

Looking good, Valmor. Which reminds me of a segment in the self-publisher panel held back on Saturday at the Baltimore Comic-Con. They mentioned digital inking using the tools available through the Manga Studio software, and I wondered how that would work out. Is it similar to when one colors an image, in that you're actually "inking" a layer that gets merged into the background, or do you make tighter pencils that you darken to change them into "inked" linework? Speaking of art, my latest:

I did the same process as the "analog", I took a pencil drawing to the computer. I added a layer over it and inked it with digital.
Then I removed the pencil layer, added another layer and put it under the inks to do the gray shading. Very quick and clean.
I saw some stuff about this Manga Studio software and I'm very tempted in buying it. It's made for comic book art, so the tools are very handy!

Carmen! I've purchased Manga Studio and I gotta tell you, it blew my mind! It's completley focused on comics production and it has all sorts of "cheating" tools that will save the ass of lousy inkers like me.
I got it yesterday, ran a few tests and I'll pretty amazed by it. And for 50 dollars, even a brazilian can afford not to pirate it! :-)
The next digital pieces I'll be posting will be all done on it. Here's the sketch I did on my first 5 minutes of the software opened:

Glad to see you enjoyed your first experiments with the Manga Studio software. I just might consider looking for the latest version myself, since I now have a large format scanner that can handle full size comic pages. I'm looking for something that can eliminate most of the mess involved with inking (feathering/bleeding, splattering, and drops falling on the page). Some of my latest:
