I've painted this watercolor of Norah Jones, I've tried to do it the best way that I can, It's not a bad portrait but I don't like it, it's very overelaborate and something is wrong for me (maybe the nose)...

One of my latest projects involves coming up with a series of model sheets for characters to be featured in an story concept that I've been planning. At this stage, I simply make the "nude outline" of characters that I'll then flesh out and design their costumes over. In this case, it's a very rough pencil sketch using light pressure on the soft B graphite to put down the outlines that will be cleaned up after I finish the heavier permanent lines and inking.
Featured in this clip of what is a larger model sheet (17" × 11" Bristol board) are three of the female leads. I'm trying to go for something more than the static pose in an effort to express the personalities of each character. Each model sheet will have up to 5 characters on the lineup with extra space being taken up by head shots and other relevant visuals.

I love it! I wouldn't have seen Norah Jones in it, but it's a solid piece.
If you re-posted it and said it was Janet Van Dyne, A.K.A. The Wasp, I bet people would go nuts over it! :)

Wonderful work, Jose!
Err.. I don't feel like posting my pic now. Oh well, I guess someone has to follow the beautiful portrait. I suppose I could go back and make mine "better", but since I lost interest in it halfway through already (I'm looking at you, Puck) it is what it is.

My latest Work In Progress...
The buildings in the background came as an afterthought. It was an opportunity to try and recapture some of what I learned about drawing in perspective, and it showed that I had a lot to learn all over again. If I do a cityscape scene like this again, I just may take a page from the Chief's book and start out with a perspective grid before drawing the characters into the composition. It also helps to know a little bit about architecture and building design before you start to do these things.

I finished the pencils on that scene drawn above, added a few more details, and put it up on my DeviantART.com gallery...
The next step will be to ink the confounded thing, which I'll do with the lightbox technique that I used a year ago. This way, I have a set of uninked pencils to compare side-by-side, and added to an art portfolio for the conventions next year.
