A dear friend and family man passed away this week, and this was my card to his wife and family.I'd drawn a sketch of them in the family's Renault 88, LINK,and Pedro, now deceased, loved it so, I drew a larger one, LiNK, and had more fun with it.He was stricken with cancer two years ago, and I finished it while he was in for his first treatments. According to his wife, he loved it.The funeral was this morning, January 5, 2013 at 10am. I found out about his passing yesterday at noontime. I worked all day, and went home by 10pm, and I'll be damned if I didn't go straight to the drawing board and bang this out. It's a happy accident.I thought I'd folded the Bristol in half, but, misjudged the length, and this became the 'lip' you see.I designed it as hearts, vertically, but, upon inserting the triangle at the bottom, saw the chance to make this go deeper. Thus, we have two souls in one heart arching skyward to heaven, (Pedro and his wife, Heather's souls intertwined forever), and three souls (Heather, and the most beautiful daughters you would ever have the pleasure to meet), encompassed in half a heart moving on in life.A lot to take in, at first glance, but, upon opening, you get a stark whiteness. Lonely, and empty. All that you're aware of is the two smaller souls at the bottom, the daughters', whom are all that matter right now, and forever on....Sail on, Pedro. At the Church they displayed my drawing on the main table, next to he and his wife's Wedding Photo. I am so humbled.(Pedro loved his wife, his daughters, AND his Renault!)Done with a variety of Pens and Brushes on Bristol Smooth. Two Move On, and Three Go On.

I've also been exploring the possibilities of using Copic markers for some of my coloring work, having had issues with the color selections and properties of the dyes used for Prismacolors. So far, it seems that the positive reviews for most artists about Copics are on-target. They don't show the tendency to oversaturate pigments on overlapping strokes as much as the others do (although all markers do this), and there is a much wider range of colors available for them that even covers some types and hues which Prismacolor seems not to pay attention to. The drawbacks are their expense (currently averaging $8 a marker versus between $4/5 for Prismacolors) and the need to special order some markers. This little sketch was inked with the XS PITT marker and the skin tones added with Copic sketch marker (E00). The rest of the colors come from my Prismacolor Premier art marker set. Copic seems to carry upwards of 200 different colors to Prismacolor's 156...
