John Byrne: Which leads me to contemplations of--yes--scrapping the whole issue. All 38 pages. Starting from scratch, with something that will more properly serve the roll I didn't really have in mind for it when I started.

I only wish the series is such a success that everyone at the top realizes they've made a mistake for the last 30 years and they scrap everything that's happened since then and pick up back in 1980. ••• Oh, but we’ve seen what happens when modern writers try to recapture bygone days. Not a pretty sight.

I disagree about scrapping it, I think jumping in right
in the middle of the action and not explaining anything
is fine.
Action is something comics have lacked for a long time.
They reduce it to like a panel or two and then the rest
of the issues are talking heads brooding about their
lives.
Maybe just have one of those summary pages at the end or
beginning (don't even like those personally).

I'll take whatever I can get! ...and I trust "The Plotter Supreme" to deliver!
Since I quit the X-Men all together by #143, to me this would be like a return from a hiatus. A 38 year hiatus sure but since I've not read them since, it will feel like they never left!
A question for JB; Any chance of revisiting Sprite's uniform color choice of black/white with red boots?

Wow! Quite the move to consider scrapping a double-sized issue. Good that you think you can re-purpose a substantial portion of the pages though and I'm glad to hear that you're feeling so much creative drive!

The Savage Surfer story-line from Silver Surfer 18 was continued 29 years later in Webspinners 4-6. Pencils by Keith Giffen.
And now back to our regular programming. ;)

Mulling and musing....It occurs to me that the solution is not to redraw, but to reWRITE. To shift emphasis in certain scenes. Since I had already decided to make use of thought balloons and narrative captions in this "series", I can mix in what I feel might be missing thru the contemplations of the character. Maybe.

I realize that the reasons you dropped the use of thought balloons are noble,
but I would argue that the same search for storytelling efficiency that drove
you that way is what made your use of them so excellent. I admire your
thought-balloon-writing as being particularly "in the voice" of characters and
particularly revealing in story-enhancing ways.

2 random questions if I may:
1. Does the return to this time period include any characters in those Kirby-esque "tucked in shirt" style you did so well with your early FF run and with the X-Men school uniforms? I LOVE the way you used that style; it gave the FF such a retro feel during that part of your run, same for Kitty, a real connection to the past.
2. Are there any other stories from your X-men run (108 - 137) that you wish you could've also "Elsewhen-ed" (some place you would have liked to have diverged from where it originally went)?
