I was contemplating the best writer/artists in comics and their best work. There are some who work on a lot of different characters, while others pretty much stick with one key character. While it's pretty safe to say that Dave Stevens' best work is THE ROCKETEER or Will Eisner's is THE SPIRIT, what do you think is the best work of others like Jim Starlin, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, or (of course) John Byrne?
Some of my choices:
Howard Chaykin--AMERICAN FLAGG! might be his most well-known and reprinted work, but I have a special love for those two issues of THE SCORPION he did for Atlas Comics 50 years ago--I think that's his best!
Mike Grell--I grew up loving his WARLORD for DC, but I recently re-read his entire JON SABLE FREELANCE series and it was even better than I remembered! Now I don't know which to choose!
(Feel free to open this discussion up to individual writers and artists too.)
