My high school Beta club did a fundraiser for Paul Newman's charities.  Paul Newman was in Louisiana filming the movie Blaze, based on the life of Louisiana governor Earl Long. Paul agreed to accept the donation in person. We got to watch a scene from the movie being filmed, (with Paul and Lolita Davidovich), then went outside to make pictures with Paul and give him the donation.

Kind of an amusing story I suppose:

During the summer of 2003, I worked on a small independent film that was shooting in Western Massachusetts.  The male lead was J.D. Cullum, who is the son of noted stage & small screen (and occasional big screen) actor John Cullum (SHENANDOAH, 1776 and "Northern Exposure").  I guess the son (or the filmmakers) pulled a small favor, and his father had a bit-part towards the end of the film, in which I acted face-to-face with the noted thespian.  My (future) wife and mother-in-law were both over-the-moon that I was working with "the" John Cullum, and he even graciously signed my wife's vinyl copy of SHENANDOAH (which she ordered me to bring to set!).

Cut to about 6 months later, and I heard through another actor on the film that entire project caved-in... the film was being directed by two college-age filmmakers, and rumor was that their relationship went kaput during post-production--because they both were fighting for the affections of the film's script girl.  So that little movie (titled "Help Wanted," I believe), never saw the light of day.

Cue over 20 years later, and my son was watching one of the seasons of the new TED series on Peacock... JD Cullum (the son) had a small bit part as a butler of some kind, and I didn't even recognize him at first.  When I read the credits, I exclaimed to my son, "Hey!!  I worked with that guy once!  AND his dad!!!"

I have no personal connections with famous people, so far as I'm aware, but my parents did. The father of my dad's second wife flew in the same WWII torpedo bomber squadron as George H.W. Bush, and my mother and aunt went to high school with Wayne Newton, before he dropped out to pursue his Vegas crooner career.

I forgot this one, 'cos it's been about twenty-five years, but I once directed Barry Bostwick in a video promo for a nursing home group that my ad agency repped.

I genuinely had to keep fighting the urge to tell him that I was indeed man enough for Megaforce.

Okay, I spent the 90's as a road musician with a bunch of Broadway shows (I had the whole crew bus hooked on JB's WONDER WOMAN). For a chunk of time, I worked on JOSEPH/ DREAMCOAT with the Osmonds, notably Alan and his kids, but I met Donny and Marie.

Also I worked with Patrick Cassidy (David's younger brother, more famous in theatre), and he and I are still friends. Through him, I met his mother, Shirley Jones. She and I not only had drinks the night we met, but breakfast together the next morning! I pray you'll insinuate something there, but it's just that Patrick and I went to the gym together in the morning, and then went and had breakfast with his mom while she was still in town. Sorry...

Oh, and Debbie Gibson.

OH! And Leonard Bernstein in college!

Oh, I have a real one.
A lad I went to school with became friends with Anthony Daniels. I count
that one as real.

I also know someone who interviews all sorts of Star Wars and other movie
people (including Kathleen Kennedy), so he leads all over the place. This
wouldn’t pass my stricter version, but the first one does.

As a kid, long before I knew of the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I created a
map of how Brian Eno pretty much allowed access to the entire music
catalogue that I possessed. I don’t think I ever got anywhere near six steps
of connections.

I can't believe I forgot this story related to me by my same buddy back in 2010:

He went to go see "THE PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW ON BROADWAY", and as he was leaving after the show, a handler told him that "Mister Reubens liked his look" (He has a bit of an old-school 80's rocker look from another era) and wanted to get his number. He figured it was a joke so played along.

A day or so later, he got a call from a blocked number. He remembered that exchange so he figured what the hell and picked up. It was Paul Ruebens. They had a conversation and asked if he was interested in hanging out. Again, my friend said sure. Ruebens told him the apartment that he was staying at on the Upper West Side and they arranged a time to meet up. At this point my friend was suspicious, telling friends about this supposed meetup, and somewhat-in-jest, if nobody hears from him the next day to call the police. So, my friend met Ruebens at his apartment, and they.....just hung out and watched movies together. They parted ways after that and that was that.

I had to ask him "Did you mention to him that you once owned his Matchbox pulltoy?" (when we were teens I remember he actually did have one).

Even before his death, it was well-known that this was just the sort of thing that Paul Ruebens liked to do with fans.

Convention appearances have laid the first steps for many imaginary pathways. At the con where I got to hang out with William Shatner I also met Cary Elwes, Paul Reubens, Mia Farrow, Gary Lockwood (I already knew Kier Dullea through a mutual friend), Brent Spiner and a host of others.

It’s amazing the links found there.

As a fireman in NYC, my father shook hands with four U.S.
presidents and sometimes pulled "theatre duty" on Broadway
(which amounted to being present backstage to be alert for
fire hazards). Lots of avenues there.

Me? much less lofty contacts. I've met Bert Parks, Sue
Grafton, David Baldacci, and I think some other folks.
