This is what Kupps had to say: "I can see Spiegle in the aircraft and some of the feathering, but the figures in panel 1 are sort'a Glanzman-ish,while the kid's face in panel 3 looks Schaffenberger. I'm stumped, but I get an overall vibe of Charlton Comics off the art."All in all, I'd still vote for Spiegle, based on the aircraft, the huts, and the shading/drapery in panel 3.

@JByrne

 I emailed Mark Evanier last night and got a reply this morning. Here is
what he had to say:

ME: Definitely not Dan's work.  Apart from one face that looks a little like his, I don't see anything on the page that does...and Spiegle never did any work for Charlton.  I'd be surprised if he'd ever heard of the company.  Don't see any Tuska or Colletta, either.

I don't recognize the artist and it's possible nobody can.  There were periods there where Charlton bought art for next-to-nothing from agencies in Spain or Argentina.  That page was obviously lettered by one of Charlton's letterers after it was inked (note the caption pasteover and the word balloon line that overlaps background art.

My guess is this came from one of those agencies and not only don't we know the name of the person who did it but that the editors at Charlton didn't, either.  One of the sad facts that it's tough for us art identifiers to face is that a lot of comics were drawn by people we never heard of...and never will.

Every post is a winner, Bill!  I love Galactus taking a bite, so much fun!  Staton delivered a beauty, too.

Nice pieces, Bill.  It reminds me of the old Marvel ad where Galactus is eating Twinkies.

The Thanos by Jim Starlin is fantastic. Was it a predone piece or did he draw it at the con?
