Ken Bald teaching Wolverine what it's like to have a random character (Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl from the old days) steal the cover of your book...

Thanks to his art dealer for going through the trouble of buying the blank Ken drew on for me.  (I just wish I hadn't been dumb enough to actually READ the thing... Oy!)

A Thor headsketch by Jim Starlin:

Of course, the first thing he said when I made the request was "shouldn't you be asking Walt Simonson to do this for you?" :-)

And speaking of Unca Walt, here's an Executioner by him:

And I gotta say, the thrill of finally getting my timing right after three years of failed attempts to get a sketch from him almost matches my enjoyment of the piece itself. :-)

A character/creator match-up so obvious I can't believe it never occured to me before:

Continuing my "pretty girls of comics drawn by Bob McLeod" series - Marvel Girl:

(Foot snipped due to lack of real estate on scanner, btw.)

Dr. Fate (borrowing Dr. Strange's amulet, I guess :-) ) by Barry Kitson:

Special thanks to Paul Greer for supplying me with paper and to Tara Piehl (as Red Sonja) for helping make the time spent in line more pleasant. ;-)

Firestorm by Thom Zahler:

Always fun when you ask an artist to draw a character that turns out to be one of their favorites.

And last but not least, Enemy Ace by Francesco Francavilla (which I requested as a kind of tribute to Joe Kubert):

And, while we're here, two pieces that have absolutely nothing to do with Baltimore, although this first one was completed just before and received just after:

Defenders vs. early 80s Luthor and Brainiac by Paul Ryan:

And finally, one I got months ago but kept neglecting to scan in, by Robert Pope:

A tribute to the four contenders for "Dave's First Comic Book:"

  • Superman Family #207 (including Supergirl vs. Universo, featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes and a Mr. and Mrs. Superman story where Lois got Superman's powers)
  • Marvel Team-Up #106 (Spider-Man and Captain America vs. the Scorpion)
  • Hulk Annual #10 (Hulk vs. Captain Universe (a split-off Bruce Banner))
  • Marvel Super-Action #32 (Reprinting Avengers #71, with Grandmaster, Black Knight joining the team, a visit to the early 40s, etc.  It also reprinted a Marvel UK Hulk story.)
