I always figured the DPS was a way for the artist to sell TWO pages in the aftermarket at poster prices.  The Nightwing, Kirby and the Spidey pages above look like that -- the Next Men pages looks a little more functional to story telling.

There is no Kirby piece above.  That's a Mike Royer commission.

Cqreful with those assumptions Trevor. The writer often puts forth the
directive and the DSP that started all of this was a gift. The artist, in
this case, has no intention of making tons of money off of his art. His
career choices and anyone who knows the man himself could tell you
that

…that Kirby/Royer piece…

••

Royer piece. Jack Kirby never touched that paper!

As many of you already know, this is one that particularly sticks in my craw, having seen many a "John Byrne" piece on eBay, that is nothing more than someone tracing one of my drawings.

I wish more people would see this as the case! I grow so weary of pointing out some mistake or conceptual flaw in a piece of art, only to have someone point out instances of my having made the same mistake -- often in work from twenty, thirty, FORTY years ago!

Some artists were lucky enough to hit the ground running. I was NOT one of them. I have spent a long time slogging down this road (with miles to go before I sleep!), and I wish people could be a little more appreciative, sometimes, of my trying to help them find the easier pathways.

I certainly was curious about your statement and interested in hearing
your thoughts on the page in question. The fact that you pointed out
your appreciation of the art and artist drove home that it wasn't simply
another "grumpy ol Byrne" statement. Thanks for sharing your
thoughts.

An Irish artist, Declan Shalvey, had a guide to art portfolio reviews (he offered the advice before a recent Irish convention that had a lot of editors at it). You have to accept criticism otherwise you won't learn was on his list. Seems obvious to me.

Nice pages Lloyd, AGAIN!!  You have to run out of wall space at some point, don't you?
Really nice Barrows work.  One of DC's better artists, in my opinion.

Hi all,

The piece below is the final DPS of SUPERMAN #123
(larger scan and rotated and published versions are in the link):

http://qurls.com?i=51567

I've admitted it a few times before in other places, and I'll do it again -
I like the Superman Blue costume design !

I'm happy to add to my collection the unveiling and 1ST full appearance
of the Superman Blue costume !

Though the costume was shown on the cover and powers have been building/
gathering through out the issue, this DPS show the final costume for the first
time in story, complete with the new, stylized S !

IMO, this piece is, by far, the best Superman artwork created by the Frenz/Rubinstein team.

This piece pays a nice (fitting ?) homage to the final page of John Byrne's Man Of Steel #1 !
The background looks very similar to the original, but with a bit more detail
(thanks to the larger DPS format, while the original had the space of just one page).

As always, comments are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Gal
