Really great stuff, Brian. That series is still one of my all-time favorites...at least when it was beginning. Just couldn't stay with it when Davis left. He and JB have that (negative?) effect. They do so well at building a book up that it's hard to stay with it when they decide to leave.

I was talking to someone from work last week who likes Marvel... and he told me that he can't stand Alan Davis' art. I think there's nothing to do there accept to agree to disagree.
Excalibur was where I realised how much I loved Davis' art. I never really liked his short stint on Uncanny X-Men just before Marc Silvestri took over the art chores, but found he was perfectly suited to Excalibur.
The pages above show just how gorgeous his art was.

Peter, I'm in a similar boat. Didn't like him on Batman and the Outsiders (too much of a shock to the system from Jim Aparo), indifferent to him on X-Men, and then fell in love on Excalibur. (Must... suppress... jealousy...)

I didn't enjoy either Davis or Rick Leonardi as much when they were doing X-Men fill-ins as I did when they got their own books and had more time to find their groove. Davis, to me, is as top tier as artists get.
Those Nightcrawler/Meggan pages are just beautiful.

Wo those Davis pages are sU-weet few drew a better Nightcrawler or a realistic curvy girl, so Kurt flying through the air and Meggan in a bikini is win win win, very jealous.
