Looking at that Bellamy "Dan Dare" page, I notice (for the first time) the strong resemblance between Bellamy's hands and JB's hands. Especially as JB's drawing has evolved in the last ten years or so.

It almost looks to my eyes now like JB somehow snuck in there and ghosted those hands.

Very strange to see after years of looking at that particular page.

Flip that. Bellamy was a huge influence on how I draw hands. Fold in some Steve Ditko and (perhaps surprisingly) a pinch of George Tuska, and you come pretty close to the "Byrne Hand".

That's what I'm finally seeing. You have mentioned Bellamy as an influence as far back in your interviews as I've ever read. I think his technique has kept me from really seeing it until now.

I mean, that and my own blindness. I've marveled over the hands in Byrne drawings for as long as I've been a fan-- I'm just surprised at myself for missing the Bellamy influence for so long.

Never tire of seeing Frank Bellamy's work, which is always beautiful. Eagle and Colonel Dan Dare are real childhood faves, so much envy indeed.

The Royal Mail over here have some commemorative comic book stamps at the moment, one of which features Dan Dare (and one is Judge Dredd).

Just received my latest pieces in the mail from Jerry Ordway. The first is the prelim for the Wildcat origin from 52 and the second was a complete surprise the original prelim to my Superman introduces Power Girl to Lois Lane-Kent commision.

Do we really think the Golden Age Lois would hyphenate herself?
