Great catch, Chris---I totally missed it as well!!

This particular issue is one of the earliest comics I remember my Dad
getting for me, so I've been looking for a page from it for a while.

The "Byrne Robot" is delicious icing on the cake!

That is neat!

Funny to me, because I was just marveling over how well that robot evokes Neal Adams before I read Chris' post.

A cornucopia of influences!

I grew up reading Marvel and DC in the 70s and 80s and the mid 90s is
when everything changed and I slowly started to get fewer and fewer
comics. Many thing contributed to it, characters I grew up changed, many
of the artists I read retired and then there was Image Comics. I never had
anything against the company and the artists personally and tried to read
some of the books but never caught on with me.
When Image started the whole speculator's mentality controlled the
industry. Someone recently posted the whole interiors to Splitting Image a
spoof by Don Simpson of the creation of Image. I never did pick it up
when the comic came out but reading the originals made me laugh. Don
really nailed it, so when I saw this page I had to have it. It encapsulates all
that was wrong with the industry at that time.
Can you guess who everyone is? Don does some great caricature.

Great stuff William!  I especially like the Enco / Exxon mascot gag one.
