I was thinking the same thing, Al! Cool, Didier!

Mikael, yeah, that Batman rules. Very Neal Adams.

Gil, yours is quite awesome as well!

Gotta love that Batman sequence you've got going, Mikael.  It ought to be a comic in print!

I second Carmen, Mikael.

Gil, Mal and JT: very nice drawings.

And thank you a lot for the Bill Watterson mention, Al... Makes me happy!

A quickie done yesterday...

I had wanted to do more with this, but ran out of time before I had to hit the road.  I wanted to put Spider-Man in there below the lady with her gun.  Oh, well... maybe later.

On a side note, I needed to upload this image after posting, because I jumped ahead of myself.  Early mornings and I aren't the greatest of combinations.

Honestly, I'd rather read Mikael's Batman story there than
Neal Adams' new series currently being discussed in the
Odyssey thread.

What I did on my holiday...

This brings to mind something that I discovered about myself.  I can really be comfortable drawing at my own pace if I just sketch out a scene in my mind without much in the way of "contstuction lines" or any other sort of prop, so long as the object in the picture doesn't require much thought.  Hence the baited hook on the line was followed by the bass that was about to bite down on it, then the rocks on the stream bottom, then the submerged tree trunk and undertwater weeds behind them, and the ripples barely visible on the surface of the murky stream, and so on...

I have had so much more difficulty whenever I start to lay out a perpective grid to arrange objects on a street scene than when I just throw something together naturally like this.  I don't know if it is a form of "artists' block" or not.  Free standing figures with no background are a cinch; figures interacting with objects or the ground are not.

Carmen, that bass illustration is great! More of those, please - really like it. Didier, love the coloured final - lovely little picture. Mikael, I'm green with envy - your Batman pages are superb. Gil, great Eradicator. The colours finish off a great drawing just fine. JT, more Spidey please!

Here's my latest, gang. Found a good tutorial on gradient colouring in PS, so did this one of Cammy to try it out. It worked so well (I think, anyway) Red Sonja gets the treatment next! Here's the sketch layout:

and here's the final. I'm happy as a clam with this.

Cheers, Mal
