I still have lots of work to do on this, but am breaking for the night. Hope to have it finished by Monday evening.

Looks like you're moving along nicely, Bill. Just a glance at the back of that red convertible, I'm trying to guess which make, model and year it is -- I'm a sucker for those old "finback" cars of the late '50s. Sebastien, my method of drawing a scene is very similar, except that I generally have an idea of what I want in the background but am too lazy to actually start laying it out ahead of time. I need to get back into the habit of doing thumbnail sketches, especially now that I've resolved to start actually doing something for the conventions. Speaking of which...
The next couple of posts by me will also have a pair of sketches done between panels and while hanging around at the Baltimore Comic Con yesterday.

Second post of Baltimore Comic Con sketches...

I gave a couple of my original characters a little bit of "air time", trying for something more substantial than the general "pose for the picture" sketches that I was usually doing. First one was Shakti (my name for her, for now) throwing up a force field deflecting fireblasts from an unseen opponent; second is her landing and confronting Obsidian Joy, an alien adventuress/crimefighter who has adopted a costumed identity ala Batman.

Third Baltimore Comic Con sketch post...

Some DC and Marvel characters got the spotlight. First up, Man-Bat, since I was getting a bit of a Neal Adams vibe there while in the midst of waiting for a panel to open. Second, a hero/villain crossover inspired by something that I saw in a guest artist's portfolio -- I selected Namor taking on the Black Manta (*). A note on Sub-Mariner: I was consciously going for the more slender build on him. I do not recall clearly, but some artists have made him out to be more bulky, when he was originally depicted as being rather thin, like an athletic swimmer. Very few artists ever got him "right", it seems. * A note on Black Manta: I drew this Aquaman villain straight from memory as I recalled him from the "Superfriends" cartoon from my childhood.

Been working inbetween other activities today on this section of the painting. Still needs refining, but I think it's getting there. Hoping to basically finish this part up tonight so I can concentrate on refining the cars and finishing the rest tomorrow.

JT, I really dig the coloring of the eyes in your work. You really capture that well. And as always love all of your coloring.

One more classic superhero pic for the day. I started it while sitting down at the Baltimore Comic Con, but pulled it back out to complete it with a little reference for the character being depicted: Aquaman.
I looked at some of the things which didn't quite seem right with how I constructed the figures in the other sketches and came to a realization that perhaps I was skipping a step or two. So I tried something with Aquaman's figure that I once saw the late John Buscema do, and laid out a quick little "wire skeleton" for the placement of the character's arms and legs. This seems to work better than going straight for the "boxes and cylinders" approach. If I'm going to get serious about putting together actual comicbook pages before attending the next round of conventions or publishing anything online, I need to work on methods like this in order to improve my drawing speeds.

Slow, steady progress today. Hope to finish it up tomorrow afternoon and post the final version sometime thereafter.
