Thank you, Gerry! I once copied that cover for a high-school art project, and seeing it again brought back some fun memories! Thanks!

James H - Do you own that original piece? It looks magnificent in B&W!

Yes, I actually bought the cover art for Iron Fist #14 earlier this year from a well-known original art collector by the name of Bill Woo.  It's a fantastic piece and significant to me for a variety of reasons.  I should note that I wanted to confirm the identity of the cover artist before I bought it, so I posted the question for JB on this forum.  JB quickly responded that in fact Al Milgrom was the penciler for the cover, dispelling the longstanding misconception that Dave Cockrum was the artist.  I subsequently confirmed JB's information with Al Milgrom himself through his agent Spencer Beck.  For what it's worth, it turns out that Cockrum was at least tangentially involved, since Milgrom said he based his cover pencils on a sketch by Cockrum.

Nice one, James! Great cover! It's a picture that a lot of people here obviously recall with great fondness.

Andrew Bitner in total agreement with your p.o.v.! And Nightcrawler was supposed to initially be a demon that got exiled to Earth in Dave's original view on the character! Chris Claremont did soften him up and add a lot of humanity to an otherwise very otherworldly character! Made him into the misunderstood nice guy he is...and JB's art in the book definitely added to the character! Once again, I point out the narrowness of the hips that John drew him with that lent a physiological explanation as to whyhe ran with an animalistic lope, and stooped more often than stood. (JB, you also gave him the perfeact face and form too in the early books! Loved your NC!)

I would say that Master Khan is Iron Fist's main villain.

Frank Lauro: I found a copy of that IRON FIST issue in the quarter bin a few years ago, believe it or not.  The cover looks like it was drenched in soup and then used as a diaper, but the pages are in pretty good shape.  And, more to the point, it's a great read.

I found one on the wall of the LCS I was going to in 1992.  The cover was severely wrinkled with water damage, but this was at the height of the Speculator Era, so nobody wanted to touch it because it wasn't a pristine copy.  I bought it for less than $4 and enjoyed it immensely.

Okay, class, what does Master Khan have in common with Dark Phoenix?

They're not really "villains".

Edit: They both seem pretty villainous to me, "actually".  Master Khan always seemed to be the major thorn in Fist's side, which is why he seems like the master villain to me.

"And now, Commissioner Green, aka Scott, asked me to go ahead and finish the first one, so here it is.... "-JB

There is a lot of Dave Cockrum in that image. Excellent work.
