JB:
I checked the FAQ and the Rog-2000 section and see no mention of this, but where did his name come from and/or does it represent? I also saw your drawing of Paty 200-89 just now and am wondering the same thing for her. Blame the curiousity on growing up with C-3PO and R2-D2 and hearing how thier names were created!
Thanks!

Both names had the same source, Bob Layton.Back in the Jurassic Period, Bob, along with Roger Stern and a few other names you'd be less likely to know, ran a fanzine called CPL, out of Indianapolis. I got hooked up with them, providing spot illustrations. One day I sent in a drawing of a robot with his arm blown off. Since there were several people named Roger "on staff" at the time, Bob decided this was the latest editor, and dubbed the robot ROG-2000. Roger Stern then got in touch with me and asked for more. Since I had no access to xerox technology at the time, I had to work from memory, and the robot I came up with was somewhat different from the original. The ILLUSTRATION of him sitting behind a desk, reading mail, is the first official ROG-2000 drawing. Further drawings went in over the months that followed. One was the "female" robot Bob dubbed "Paty" (Pay-Tee), after Dave Cockrum's wife.

Thanks for the "BIG" reveal! I can sleep better now! :-) Seriously, due to the many publications I have with the various interviews you have given over the years (and having collected comics since I was a kid in the '70's) I am quite familiar with your history with CPL and your co-workers, but the back story on the name(s) was never mentioned, so much appreciation! I would love to see some new ROG-2000! Perhaps you can do a mini-series for this site, like your "You Go Ghouls" on line comic, especially since you are his owner!

That's pretty cool. I, for some reason, thought I knew Rog's origin but when I tried to pull up that brain-file I realized I didn't so this was a great read. A shiny new no-prize to the OP for coming up with a new addition to the FAQ.
However, as much as I think I'm a Star Wars fan I can't recall the answer to this either:
"Blame the curiousity on growing up with C-3PO and R2-D2 and hearing how thier names were created"
Will someone please elaborate? Thanks.

Point of clarification: what is the correct pronunciation of "ROG-2000"?

JB:
I am a big fan of Charlton. I enjoy really anything from Charlton. Earlier in this thread you mentioned CPL. A bunch of the CPL gang went on to major things after Charlton ( I am still so impressed with the talent that was with Charlton). I was wondering if you know what became of Duffy Vohland. While you were with Charlton and part of the CPL gang did you ever visit the Charlton offices in Derby? Thank you. Best/Steve Ogden
