What an odd -- and fun -- commission idea. And what a great drawing! This
is a lot of fun, JB.

There are three basic mistake young (and some not so young!) artists make
when drawing cityscapes

++++++++

And you don't think you have a "how to" book in you for aspiring comic
artists?

If not a book, maybe a sticky should be put up with all these tips you've
been giving everyone. I find them very informative and I'm not an artist!

Poor Robin.  Not only was he not invited to dinner, but Alfred took his mask!

Great job as usual JB, and kudos to the person requesting such a unusual commission!

Whimsical!

(Alfred's mask is a witty touch!)

This commision is far and away one of the best--not only is it excellently
rendered, but it's got a certain kind of soul going on that I can't quite place.

That you felt compelled to throw in Alfred as a 'freebie' says a lot about the
piece, IMHO. This piece is just overflowing with character: of the heroes
AND the artist.

What I love about the mask is, again, verisimilitude.  Alfred is wearing a mask because that's what one does in this world when one doesn't want others knowing who you are. It's brilliant!

JB mentioned he was surprised that Spider-Man appears in so few commission requests and when he does he is often the "guest star."  With that comment in mind I found it humorous that Spider-Man appears to be literally the guest star in this one!

As long as I'm handing out the "lessons" -- this piece is a good example of something I have mentioned before -- the "trick" John Romita taught me for drawing Spider-Man's costume webbing. How the scallops switch direction, shot to shot, based on the curve of his body parts. As JRsr pointed out, if this is not done, the webbing starts to look like coffin lining.

In this piece, notice how the scallops slowly switch the direction of their curve as they move along Spider-Man's right arm, so that by the time they reach his hand they are curving in the opposite direction from his shoulder.
