I'm intrigued and even happy about the reboot back to single Spider-Man with the classic supporting cast.
I'm thoroughly disappointed that my hero made a self-absorbed deal with the devil, for many of the reasons already expressed here.
It's kind of hard to enjoy the stories knowing that all of reality is a vicious, ongoing lie perpetuated by Mephisto in order to enjoy hurting Peter.

A.) Peter Parker coming home to find Mary Jane, nonplused, over the revelation that not only does the devil exist (confirming that the judeo-christian religion MUST be the one true one) but that he's in their living room trying to make a bargain.
In the M***** universe, all of the religions are true. All of the Gods exist. The deal was made with Mephisto, but it just as easily could have been Hades, or Hela.

I am one of the few who liked Peter and MJ marriage and I never thought it
hindered the writers or took away from the original concept of Peter or
Spider-Man. Many forget it was the co-creator of Spider-Man who came up
with the idea and wrote the story where Peter and MJ get married. I pretty
much ignore what Joey Q does these days. My question is will the marriage
remain in the newspaper strip since Stan still writes it. I hope so.

Not quite.
Black Cat made Spider-Man a cloth version of the black costume (she thought he looked better in it), but Mary Jane was bothered by it and asked that he stop wearing it. He then went back to his original costume.
So, because of them being married, Spider-Man is wearing his original costume and not the black one.

Ah... a reboot is the final answer? And a deal made with the devil? Sounds
like the same old S#!& I've come to expect from that company. Any
situation that revamps a character and totally p!$$es on continuity only
creates more problems.
The main problem lies in each creative team or editorial staff wanting to
do "major-league" changes in direction of character quickly abandoning
their story lines when it doesn't do well. It might help for these people to
actually think of the long-range ramifications of their 'kewl' ideas before
inflicting it on the rest of us.
I'd be happier with the Spider-Man I knew and loved from the early 80's,
but if change discounts the last twenty years of crossovers and critical
events in a character's life, then how are the rest of us to know what
happened or not? I'm thinking this new 'kewl' approach that is being
undertaken is going to leave One Bad Taste in my mouth.

I also started reading Spider-Man when he was married. Of course I did notice most of those stories were terrible. So I read Marvel Tales and Spider-Man classics.
Now im not saying the marriage is the reason Spider-Man has been so bad for the last twenty years. It just makes a conveniant fork in the road.

When I approached to the Spider-Man comics again (mid '90s) Peter was married. Tha didn't disturb me so much, antd I liked the stories (at least those on ASM and SPECTACULAR). But in the same time, in Italy we had a chronological reprint, which in that moment was representing the stories from the late '70s. The current Spider-Man wasn't bad, but... the classic one was simply better. I had always this thought in my mind: in the '70s they didn't need to do [insert event from the '90s].
Now, Omd. The deal with the devil is something stupid, sure, but I think it will be useful if there will be some popular riot of the readers and low sales: "Spider-Man now knows he made the wrong choice and must fight Mephisto so he can have his real life back! Don't miss it!".
By the way, I'm so glad for the half reboot. Too much bad stories I have read in these years... justified with the usual, annoying "it's evolution".

But this comes back to the selflishness that's always been banged about in these parts. You don't like Venom so he should be gotten rid of. But loads of kids (y'know the very kids that should be reading comics) love Venom.

Obly if you count Quesada as a fan. I'm not aware of any active movement that was pushing for this.
I am glad to see the new status quo though.
