That was excellent John. Most of JB's work today is colored pretty bright. It's interesting to see some of those splash pages, very dark and moody.
I came to Iron Fist as back issues. Every time I look at those, I'm always glad Al McWilliams left as inker. I've never thought he was a good fit to JB's pencils.

This…
…was, in my mind at least, the exact moment at which I became a Marvel artist. When I finished penciling that splash, I sat back and, for the very first time since I'd "turned pro" a few years earlier, really felt like I had a future in comics. Still a long, long, LONG way to go, I knew, but that was the first step on the right path.

I still love your Iron Fist run JB. Not going to say it was better than anything else but I feel no one has ever made him "move" the same way you have. I really wish you had or could do more with this character.

WHen I left IRON FIST I felt that I had said all I had to say with the character. But when Marvel let me bring him back in NAMOR, tidying up the mess that had been made of him in his own book, I felt some genuine nostalgic stirrings. And, of course, doing commissions has help keep those flames burning.Guess I'll always have a soft spot for the Kid.

In my opinion he is your kid as much as Jean Grey is your girl. Though I promise not to tell Sue :)

I only know this title in B&W - I've read the ESSENTIALS volume a few times and love it, but I never had the issues
It looks jarring in color! I think I will stick with the B&W.

I had noticed JB's work on the Charlton titles, but his work on Iron Fist is when I knew I really liked his art. Though I believe Gil Kane and Larry Hama did Marvel Premiere with IF and I enjoyed their work, to this day Iron Fist is simply one of JB's characters in my mind. This may sound weird, but I remember liking how JB drew his hair at the back of his mask.
In fact, it was a quick discussion I was having with Matt Wieringo about Iron Fist where we talked about really liking the character and especially JB's work and he mentioned this site to me, that I ought to check it out. Now I am hooked!

That splash with the "motion" figures of Iron Fist taking out the gang?
That's the stuff.
That's what keeps 'em comin' back!
I would love to see that page's original art!

Iron Fist was where I was introduced to JB's work. The Wrecking Crew/Captain America story in IF #11-12 is still a favorite.

I will always love the 'motion' images the JB used to do in IF. They were amazing and as a kid *completely* blew my mind.
