Newton thought the effects of gravity would be instantaneous, but apparently he was incorrect.

John Byrne: And thank you, Chris, for obscuring the art with verbose descrptions of -- the art.

I will admit the idea of seeing aurora during that type of solar activity would be surreal -- even if it's last thing we see!

I've wondered about this. Does gravity have a "speed"? (I recall either the Flash or Quicksilver running up a wall "faster than gravity"!) I suspect that if anything happened to the Sun, such that its gravimetric effects were disrupted, we'd feel it instantly.-------------------------------------- Pretty good discussion of it here: LINK

Wow, so my pondering wasn't as crazy as I had thought! That's a fascinating link - I'm pouring through it now.

Did Claremont think he was getting paid by the word? Sometimes reads that way. Same with a lot of Roy Thomas's writings.

The short answer is: Einstein "proved" gravity travels at the speed of light in his book on General Relativity in 1915 (wow, over 100 years ago). Before Einstein, scientists thought gravity traveled either instantaneously or many times faster than light.
The stellar flare actually happened over 4 years ago, we just get to observe it now. I guess this means right-wing pundits will blame Obama for it.

"One of the most common questions I get asked is whether gravity is instantaneous, or whether therefs a speed limit to how fast the force of gravity can travel. This is not as simple a question as it seems on the surface.", from the linked article.
No, the question is simple the answer is not.

Speaking of ruined neighborhoods, a Cybertruck has apparently moved in across the street.
