All ELSEWHEN is missing at this point is the Hostess Fruit Pie ads.

Did you use photo reference for the fox, JB? And do you normally use photo reference for your animals?

Mr. Byrne - YOU'RE not on holiday. But Monday - Memorial Day - is a holiday. Just hoping that you have a good one here.

The Woods are still. Unusually so.

JB, I know most of the reaction you get is in response to your artwork, but I really have to compliment you on your language here. Something about the simplicity of the sentences, the cadence of the words, and even their placement on the page really serve to drive home--in a truly visceral way--the utter stillness of the woods. Wow!

"Monday is Memorial Day, literally a legal national holiday."

One in which JB will not be partaking.

He's not denying that Monday is Memorial Day, he's saying that he won't be taking a holiday (day off of work) that day. It's in the context of the posts.

Your response only works if the conversation was "Hey, JB, Monday is a National Holiday" and his response was "Not a holiday". But that's not the case. He was wished to enjoy his holiday (making the reference to his PERSONAL holiday, not the NATIONAL one) and he replied that he was not going to take the day off of work, but try to get further ahead on work instead.

But what I think some people are really reacting to here is the (mis)perception that JB was impolite in his response. That he should have just said "Thanks! You too!" That would be, after all, the more common response. But JB is more of a factual or literal communicator than an emotional one, IMO. Just read the words, and not into them.

My point is simply that wishing someone a nice holiday is probably just a genuine nice sentiment and not an accusation that you are going to be slacking off.

Just caught up on the last two pages. Wowzers! That is one scary squirrel.

Cool teleporting effect on the previous page (for some reason I find that black cut-through of the earth they are standing/lying on very satisfying).
