Ah, it appears to be Ashley's "Welcome to the X-Men - hope you survive the experience!" moment!

Restarting ONE sentinel is a bad idea. Restarting a BASE FULL of them is a horrible idea. I hope they survive th- oh never  mind.

I LOVE the perspective and real height of the sentinel(s)! About seven, eight feet tall if I'm any judge - and I'm not. ;) ;) ;) SUCH wonderful detail, Mr. Byrne. Your genius continues to grow and expand justly. You be careful sir - you might end up being a legitimate legend despite yourself.

I'm pretty sure Ashley hasn't restarted anything. She's just using her power to manipulate that one to prank Kitty.

And now that’s spoiled for anyone who hasn’t figured it out.

No, Joel, you’re speculating about what’s “on the page”—which may seem obvious to you, but perhaps not so much to others.

Which is why “that’s what I thought was happening!” is preferable to “this is what I think is happening!”

Strictly for funzies, rereading (not yet UNCANNY) X-MEN 1 in my bound volume. Really quite amazing to see how much of the groundwork was NOT there.

Aside from the brutish characterization of Hank, which would soon change, of course we had “Slim” Summers, and Jean arriving professing no knowledge of why she had been summoned to Xavier’s school. Shortly he had her demonstrate her “teleportation” powers, prompting her to note she’d been hiding them “all her life”.

Speaking of which, this is where Xavier describes himself as “born of parents who had worked on the first A-Bomb project”, which would put him in his twenties, and, he adds, it was a “childhood accident” that put him in the wheelchair. He also suggests he is “possibly” the first mutant.

Magneto’s subsequent attack is presented as the first time the world at large is made aware of super-powered mutants.

Didn’t take long for Marvel to wipe away most of that! What if they HADN’T?

Now, that could've proved a very interesting prospect ... Talk about 'the road not taken' - there's a whole junction of 'em there ... !

What, no calls to discount all the inconsistencies and retcons/changes that were made subsequent to this original issue? ;) < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

Curiously enough, Chris did discount at least one “inconsistency”, tho he had no idea he was doing so. He pushed the early manifestations of Jean’s power back to her childhood, after it had been long a retcon that mutant powers kicked in with puberty. (“Acne isn’t bad enough!” was the joke around the Office when I was starting.)

Mind you, he had her telepathy manifesting back then, a contradiction of its own.

(Occurs to me that “retcon” should stand for “retroactive contradiction”.)

This is a wonderful start to the issue - great to see these quieter moments.

I really dig the idea of the team using an old Sentinel site. Now that's
recycling!
