Strictly for funzies, rereading (not yet UNCANNY) X-MEN 1 in my bound volume. Really quite amazing to see how much of the groundwork was NOT there. Aside from the brutish characterization of Hank, which would soon change, of course we had “Slim” Summers, and Jean arriving professing no knowledge of why she had been summoned to Xavier’s school. Shortly he had her demonstrate her “teleportation” powers, prompting her to note she’d been hiding them “all her life”. Speaking of which, this is where Xavier describes himself as “born of parents who had worked on the first A-Bomb project”, which would put him in his twenties, and, he adds, it was a “childhood accident” that put him in the wheelchair. He also suggests he is “possibly” the first mutant. Magneto’s subsequent attack is presented as the first time the world at large is made aware of super-powered mutants. Didn’t take long for Marvel to wipe away most of that! What if they HADN’T?
