In Uncanny X-Men, Madelyne Pryor introduction was a turning point to me.

The beginning of a big mess which ended with the "Mutant Massacre", an "event" I never really understood.

Daredevil - Introduction of Elektra

Batman - The Dark Knight Returns, pretty much went dark
from that point on

X-Men - The All New X-Men, Death of Phoenix, Days of
Future Past (even though 4 issues later), Magneto in
issue 150, and so on

Hulk - The MDP storyline that led to different versions
from thereon in

Captain Marvel - his gaining cosmic powers and then his
death

My starter for 10.

In Uncanny X-Men, Madelyne Pryor introduction was a turning point to me.

••

That was a Big Moment in many ways.

I've told of seeing the introduction page at my (then) local comic shop, and asking the manager/owner what was happening. "I think she's supposed to look like Jean," he said, and my heart sank. Chris was not done with Phoenix yet, obviously, but this was also Paul declining to draw on-model, even when being on-model was a vital part of the plot!

Made me think back to Dave redrawing my X-Men in IRON FIST.

Frank's story was, of course, supposed to be set many years in the FUTURE, But too many writers found his portrayal of Batman KEWL and started bringing it in to current comics.

(Frank's Batman work was a lesson to me. While Superman fans scrutinized and complained about every jot and tittle of my work on the character, Frank made huge, sweeping changes to the Batman cannon--in large part because he didn't realize he was doing it!--and it seemed there was not a chirp from Bat-fans. I honestly would have thought that would have played the other way around.)

Madelyne Pryor - her introduction panel elicited the exact
same reaction from me and my brothers as it did you JB.

We ended up debating and debating and eventually came down
on - it's a red head, so it must be Jean. But Paul Smith,
while being a phenomenal artist, missed the goal by yards
in that panel.

Honestly it was a turning point for me.

I was a kid and I was ok to believe there was someone like Galactus eating planets...

But this I didn't. "So Cyclops is going to marry a girl looking exactly like his dead girlfriend and happened to work with his grand-parents? What's that crap?"

My issue with Madelyne was that she was a young kid when she first
appeared* then a couple years later she was an adult hooking up with Scott.
Was it ever actually explained how she aged so quickly?

*In an Avengers Annual, no less.

Madelyne Pryor was just a name that Claremont liked to use (I think from someone he knew, ala Kitty Pryde?), so no relation between characters.

It was from Maddy Pryor, the lead singer of English folk rockers Steeleye Span.

Don Blake ceasing to be Thor's alter ego.
