JB: I’ve found myself wondering from time to time just how old Jean’s parents are.

It's a good question, and I've observed the same: anyone who is older than the heroic characters is generally drawn as "old." Aunt May was drawn (IMHO) to look more like Peter's great-aunt than any plausible sister of his father or mother, but maybe that's just me.

There wasn't a lot of gradation in age until the last few decades. Honestly, weren't people a bit shocked when Ben Grimm's Aunt Petunia turned out to be youthful (or at least far more youthful than we might have assumed)?

JB: Can’t imagine flying exposed and unprotected for that long, so, a LOT more speed would be needed. A LOT more. Plus protection of skin, hair and garments.

Which is why it was so cool to see Walter Langkowski wearing that hazmat-y looking protective suit when he hitched a ride on Aurora back in the day.  Realistic touches like that add flavor..

What's worse than dealing with Dark Phoenix? Elaine. Ugh, she's the worst.

Absolutely! I remember being (pleasantly) shocked that Aunt Penny was a hottie! I think we all had the same reaction as Johnny!

Aunt Petunia was married to Ben's uncle, wasn't she? And it was mentioned (and shown) she was a good deal younger than him. It's not the same as Aunt May.

Uh oh.  If my twisty mind is right, (and even if it's not), this is going to be traumatic for Jean.  Amazing work.  I haven't been so enthralled by a comic for a very long time.
There were occasional flashes of inspiration from House/Powers of X, but while I occasionally like convoluted dark political stories, it's much better if they had a finite duration rather than the long drawn-out mess all the X-Men titles have become.  Not to mention forcing characters to act counter to their established personalities just for the sake of the story.
My hat's off to you, Mr B.  Or, at least, it would be if I wore a hat.
For what it's worth: while I vaguely considered flight, the practicalities concerned me.  So I eventually decided that my preferred power would be a combo of Psi abilities (TK and TP) - so long as there was a degree of control available - being able to turn off all the noise in ones head is quite important (e.g. Jack of Eagles).

My choice of super-power, btw, would be some variant on remote viewing, with hearing and comprehension involved. So, basically, to be able sit in a comfortable chair and tour all of time and space.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Uatu Byrne.

Be on the lookout for cranky Ultron/Visions looking to crash your party.

That’s where harsh reality kicks in. New York to Paris takes about six hours by commercial jetliner. Can’t imagine flying exposed and unprotected for that long, so, a LOT more speed would be needed. A LOT more. Plus protection of skin, hair and garments.

Reminds me of the "Physics of Santa" that circulates around this time of year. The first time I saw it in college I laughed as it described the friction on the lead reindeer causing spontaneous combustion amongst other catastrophic outcomes.  Northstar (or other speedster) is off!...oh,..he's ash. HAH
